Hey Everyone,

I'm going to be travelling from Ontario, Canada to Daegu in about 2 weeks and I was wondering if there are any mambers that have lived or currently live there that can offer any advice and or tid-bits of information that may be useful.

I'm interested in good places to eat, good places to drink, what to do for fun, any kind of sport activities there is, basically anything you would like to share about my new home for a year.

There's some good information here: http://wiki.galbijim.com/Daegu That should cover everything you need to know.

Lots of foreigners live in Daegu, so try running a search on this site, for the General Discussion forum.

Here are some good places to eat.

1) Alibaba Restaurant (Indian food) - across from the Bukbu bus terminal.

2) Ariana Hotel Buffet - 17,000 won ($18 U.S.) gets you all you can drink homemade beer plus a nice buffet including pizza, turkish kebab, sushi and various other foods. To top it off, there's a good filipino band there to entertain you. Hard to believe but true. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 5 pm ~ 9 pm. Reservations are needed as it often sells out.

Ah...Dev, didn't know you were in Daegu. Have to meet up sometime. Nothing like a good real beer.

Actually, I am not in Daegu anymore. Lived there for two years. Thought it was a bit dull. However, I made good friends there and found it quieter than living in Seoul. Seoul is too much for me - too many people, too much noise, too much general chaos.

My final assesment is that if you can make some good friends in Daegu, you'll be happier there.

If you want to do some partying or buy some big clothes, you can always jump on the KTX and go to Seoul whenever you want.

Ah, shame. Yeah, my guess is that it'll be much easier to use the KTX rather than driving up there.

The highways to Seoul are like slowly moving parking lots.
Another option is to take the bus. There's a bus lane on the highway going into Seoul so that the buses avoid the heavy traffic. That's a smart idea.

the old filipino band that was there used to be good, but the new filipino band is kinda wack. Kinda like the backstreet boys or something.

And Alibaba's is pretty sketchy. I thought the food stuck to my table looked more edible.

Indo Bang Ryung Gi is MUCH better. It's across from the north gate of Kyoungpook University.
