At the Cambie now, and it has free internet service
Unlike red necky, backward Brisbane, it's interesting to see the different attitudes towards internet access here. The Australians always seem to want to nickle and dime you to death over internet service - even in universities.
Even Japan, Korea and Taiwan have free wireless internet connections in coffee shops and universities.
Anyone know any other hotspots in downtown Vancouver where we can use free wireless?
Seems that 'Fat Port' is the thing here downtown.
By the way, what's theft like at the Cambie?
I'm very hesitant to leave anything valuable in my room - it seems anyone can walk upstairs - and they do. Think I'm going to keep valuable sheit with me in my day bag.
Man, strange to be back in Vancouver again and see all they fuggin' hypes running around with stolen stereo speakers!
I'm not used to being confronted on the street and asked for money - has happend twice my first day back. |

Yea, I used to got here alot, in the gas-lamp quarter. I've never seen anything like it and I certainly didn't expect to see anything like that in wholesome Canada. Its been awhile but I can remember the cambie being a grand daddy/flagship hostel. I spent an evening at the place I think. the bottom floor is all beer bar. the upstairs is bunk room after bunk room. |

Hey man, I used to know the Cambie Hotel and bar in the 1970s when
it was a rough working man's drinking bar.
Life has changed. Now it is Yuppiefied, if that is the right PC term.
I have stayed there several times over the last 10 years comming and
going abroad. Funky place!
Your stuff? Don t you have a padlock for your travel - kit bag?
If not, use the lockers or take it with you. Anyone seeing something
valueable is tempted, no matter what country you are in.
You are lucky you never go hit up, meaning propositioned by a gay person, a pusher or a prostitute!
Welcome to downtown Vancouver in all it s West Coast ambience.

Yeah, if you're staying at the Cambie, you can give your stuff to the staff and they will put it in lockers downstairs. I put my computer in there.
I like staying with the Japanese. They're quiet, clean and don't fuhk with your sheit.
"Burger - brew" is the phrase you want to use if you want a Cambie Burger and pint of Labbatts for $5.95.
DM, do you remember that one?
The bad thing about the Cambie is that stupid fence running down the middle of the bar to separate drinking and eating and the just drinking section.;
The Cambie hostel / Malones bar on Seymour is definitely a bit more 'Yuppie-fied.' |
