As soon as one of those guys said "We'll hurt you" I would've come back with a "Well why don't you try it now?" in Korean.

Just simply stand your ground and say "해봐" or "덤벼". If you're lucky you'll get injured enough for blood money.

I received an e-mail from Mr. Kim today stating,

"You brought disgrace on families and school. Come back never you fu ck ass hole. We are very angry at you. Teachers angry at you! I call police on you if you come."

What should I write back to him?

Hilarious! I have such a hard time believing this. Reply with this: Ask him in the calmest voice possible how it is exactly you are bringing "disgrace to families and school" and also while you are at it, ask him what the title of his Ph.D. dissertation was in which he successfully defended it in perfect English from one of those relatively prestigious North American universities, because you feel inspired by his model academic credentials.

EDIT: Oh and make sure you save that e-mail in headers and send it to
[email protected] of the Korea Herald.

Once I complete my Ph.D. I may well apply for work with this august institution.

Just like a Korean tough guy to hide behind a skirt.

"You are disgrace"? For what, posting his emails to the net? Yeah, okay, they think you're an ass and not happy you did it, but it was damn funny. The St.Andrew's people are a bunch of morons who keep getting themselves into these things. What's a lawyer gonna do? The boss wrote the words himself. Is he going to sue himself for libel?

Sending a lawyer...지랄하네!

Okay, then the procedure should be simple. Just write: "I'm sorry for your family" here. Problem solved. Wink

I will bring my friend along with me this Monday. Her name is Grace (she speaks Korean well) and she will be able to translate if we don't understand each other. I will be at your hagwon at 3:00 p.m. If your security guards threaten me, then I'll leave immediately.

I went to meet with Mr. Kim and his wife. Grace came along with me to act as a translator if needed be. The meeting was going fine until the issue of the fake diplomas was brought up. He, Mr. Kim, became enraged. I tried to keep my cool as much as possible. He asked me, "Why you say fake diplomas?" I responded, "If you were a foreigner would you work for a Korean employer who was collecting fake diplomas?" Mr. Kim was so angry that Grace had to translate that to him. He walked away and all the students could hear him screaming in the office. I walked away.

What I don't get is why this hagwon owner needs to hire security guards at his hagwon to arbitrarily remove people. Seems a bit over the top to me (among other things).
