Yeah, I s'pose I shouldn't generalize. I've had decent Dunkin' coffee but overall I find it just a step up from McD's. I just drink coffee black, and the local Dunkin' staff are useless tards at making a decent cup. I'd forgot about Holly's which isn't too bad.

Anyone remember Seoul like 3-4 years ago when going to Starbucks was a trip all the way to Gwanghwamun for those of us who lived in Gangbuk?

Nobody has mentioned 'Tour Les Jours' a Korean cake & bakery chain that also does reasonable coffee.

The KFC coffee sundae in China was as good as Starbucks, & 1/3 the price. Haven't yet seen it Korea.

There is no such thing as good chain coffee. I fully adhere to the philosophy that it's either made yourself (with beans freshly ground and percolated to perfection) or it's sludge.

(*sniff*) I can smell that bittersweet ambrosia as we speak. Ahhhhhhh.....

Yeah I find Dunkin' donuts et al have some nice iced coffee drinks you'd pay double for at Starbucks/Coffee Bean.

Best Deal - Dunkin Donuts. Half the price of Starbucks and almost as good tasting.

Worst Deal - The Coffee Bean. 5000 won for a latte in a semi-developing country? Evil or Very Mad You're kidding, right? Do the college kids that work there have to work 2 hours to earn enough to buy one of their lattes?

Good post, Bondgirl. I might check that stuff out. Maybe I'll buy a pack of that coffee and see if it's any good before plunking down the cash for a machinetta, which is something I've never heard of before.

Btw, if we aren't talking about chain stores, there is of course excellent coffee to be had in Korea. I've been to a couple places that make terrific coffee. One place in Daejeon roasts its own coffee beans right there in the store. In Seoul, I found a place in Yeomchang dong that makes a very nice Americano. It's out there.
