this is just a bit of a rant, nothing more. but how many of you foreignors get screwed at bars? for example i've been here 7 or 8 months and not had any problems, but in the last two nights i've had the bar try to charge me about 6,000 won for talking to the bar tender twice, and once the bartender made herself a cock tail behind the bar and decided to charge me for it. note: i'm not at gentlemens clubs or any of that. anyway, does this happen to a lot of you?

Never had that happen without being told it would happen first. I thought that such places usually just generally charge higher prices. |

Don't go back in there. This is unreasonable. They are shady.
Heck, I talked with 2 Korean bartenders in an Itaewon bar for 2 hours one afternoon on vacation and they didn't charge me more, but we all wanted to chat. They were the Koolest Koreans I met so far. As for where I'm living, I haven't met any English speaking Koreans outside of work, a professionals club, and 2 foreigner bars so I really don't know how common this situation is. |

Sounds like you ended up at a talking bar. And as butlerian said, usually they just have higher prices. Even the handful of talking bars I've been to I've never had to pay to talk to the girl, but the drink was a few thousand more than other bars.
I have been to one where we were expected to feed the girls drinks. My boss had bought a bottle so we poured them some too but they're wily. In order to avoid getting drunk they pour the shot into a glass of ice, swirl it around and end up with about three shots worth of liquid out of one. And then they rotate out so that it's not just one girl getting all the drinks. |

Nope, I never had that happen to me. I usually get free drinks from bartenders and they chat wth me for free, too. You probably stumbled upon a hostess bar, where you have to pay to chat. A funny thing happened to me once though, a few months ago. I visited a bar that I hadn't visited in awhile, only to find it had turned into a hostess bar. There were two girls there who came over and sat down behind the bar to chat with me. I am not a lesbian, but they wanted to chat. I drank two drinks and the guy that works there remembered me from before, so I didn't have to pay a cent/won...hahaha. I'm also friends with a girl who works in a nice upscale bar in Cheongdam and she let me get away with not paying one night and my bill was 30,000+. I've also gotten free food from bartenders, like ice cream, etc. |
