I know Michigan has the most wins. But I don't care about ancient history. Where do they stand if you just look at the last 10 years? ESPn has them ranked as number 8 most overrated team in the past 10 years.

Which top 25 teams in the past 100 years has lost to a Div 1AA opponent? I think there is only 1 school.

Here is a great website you can get to via stassen's football website (which has tons of info, facts and links). Just type in your parameters and bingo...
http://football.stassen.com/records/compute-request.html

By the way, when computing which teams have the highest winning % over the past ten years ('97-'06) since one poster cares not for "ancient history," Michigan comes in 4th place with a .775419 winning percentage behind Texas, Boise St., and OSU. Oh, and those three teams are ahead of UM because UT played two more games and the other two played one more game. All four of them have the same number of losses.

UT 98-28
BST 97-28
OSU 97-28
UM 96-28

EDIT: Just out of curiousity, I went back to that site and looked up the top 10 winning percentages from '97-06, from 87-06, from 77-06, from 67-06, and from 57-06. In other words, the top 10 winning % over the last ten years, the last 20 years, the last 30 years, the last 40 years, and the last 50 years. Only three teams were in the top ten of all those lists. Any guesses which ones? (hint: if the parameters are made to include only teams that played at the 1-A level for 75 percent of the last 30 years, one of the three teams would not qualify)

Anyone can beat up the cupcakes.

Don't get me wrong, Michigan is the elite of elites. However, they are overrated. They always finish their season ranked lower than they were preseason. They just can't seem to win the big games.

With the program, the talent, and the facilities, Michigan should finish top 10 year in and year out. Michigan should be where USC is.

I stick by my assessment that Michigan is overrated. How many National Titles do they have since the inception of the BCS? How many National Title games have they played in since the inception of the BCS system.

Did I say Michigan was a bad team?? No. They are elite. Are they overrated? YES.

academically Michigan is probably number one in the Big Ten ...only Northwestern could challenge them...one the other hand OSU would rank dead last...isn't that why all these great athletes are there...to get an education? I know where I'd go if I had the chance ...goodbye Columbus!

Cupcakes? UM doesn't schedule any more cupcakes than the next team. ND and Oregon are usually solid teams. Every team has a few easy games on the schedule. But that is beside the point.
If your point is that UM has been underachieving the last decade, I agree. I already mentioned that under Carr, UM will likely be 9 or 10 win team but fall short of some people's expectations. As for finishing in the top 10, since the AP poll starting in 1936, I believe UM has the most top 10 finishes of any team (trying to find that info, infoplease used to have it but it's gone now). Also, keeo in mind that great teams are often overrated due to high expectations. Here is a chart of underrated and overrated teams since 1989. Teams "in the black" are underrated. They ended up ranked higher at the end of the season than they were at the beginning. The teams at the bottom "in the red" tended to end up lower than they were at the beginning. ANd yes, UM has been the 3rd most overrated team over that span. But look at the company they have: Texas, ND, USC, FSU, Neb, Miami and OU. Good teams with the highest aspirations often end up overrated.

Anyway, I agree that UM has underachieved since '97. I think they will continue to as long as Carr is coach. UM needs to let go of Bo and his understudies and get a new kind of coach that will have his team prepared all the time.

Did you watch it? I took a peak at the stats and they're quite even...except for the 3 turnovers for UM to Oregon's zero.
This has got to be the nail in Carr's coffin.

EDIT: UM may be lucky to end up bowl eligible at this rate.

After the thumping UM got last year in the bowl game, how the hell did they get a lofty ranking this season.

After this ugly loss to Oregon State, I stand by my original statement. Michigan = Overrated.

Dennis Dixon accounted for 368 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.

No, your original statement was that Michigan has always been overrated. Then you switched to the last ten years, then after it was revealed that their winning % is 4th best during that span, you now state that "Michigan=Overrated." If you mean this year, no one disagrees with that and it doesn't take going out on a limb to say such. But that is not what your original statement was.

you know...there's always been some rumbling that other states have a bone to pick with michigan.

i don't see how michigan can be any more "overrated" than another team. when we were up there making the plays and getting work done properly, people were up there trying to say that we were "overrated" and were trying to find something to complain about.

when it's not michigan it's MSU, if it's not MSU, then it's the pistons.
people are always trying to hate.

-_-
