I go to class at KLA every Saturday from 10am-1pm, and that is in Kangnam, near to Nambu Bus terminal. I like to go for a 'hike' after class to unwind and get some exercise, and what better way to do that, than to take advantage of some of the hills in Seoul. But I don't know where they are except one hill (mountain) close to Nambu Bus Terminal.

I have gone up the 'mountain' (as the Koreans call it) close to the Nambu Bus terminal, and it isn't bad, but it is pretty small, only taking about 20 minutes to get to the top. So you have to do it several times (up and down!) to get any decent workout.

Are there any other 'mountains' in Seoul, preferably close to Nambu bus terminal which some of you use? And hopefully a bit bigger than the nambu mountain?

Preferably, I am looking for a place where you can also deposit a backpack with a change of clothes. The 'nambu mountain' has no facilities (as far as I could see) to leave your stuff while you go for your hike. I left my stuff in the local junk food mart across the road, but will not be able to rely on them every time. The lockers at Nambu Bus Terminal were all used, so could not use those either.

It was interesting to notice that 99% of the 'hikers' that I saw climbing 'nambu mountain' were aged in the 50-70 age group, all decked out in similar, expensive hiking gear and boots. I felt like an interloper in my shorts, tank top and running shoes.....sorry but I am not going to fork out hundreds of dollars for wearing stuff that you would wear for a Nepalese hike, when the 'mountains' here are small, and easily accessible with their well laid out trails and steps. Plus I like to 'race' up the mountain with quick steps, so I don't need all that extra gear on my body.

There are about 13 similar mountains in Seoul that you can climb up. Gwanank is my favourite. Near Nambu, you can find Guryong, Cheonggye, Umyun, and Daemo.

I guess not too many of you guys go hiking in Seoul.

If anyone is interested in hiking up a hill or mountain on Saturday afternoons, feel free to drop me a pm, and we could set up a small group.

I attend Seoul Korean Language Academy (www.seoul-kla.com) in Kangnam-gu on Saturday mornings from 10am-1pm, and then generally try to find a mountain to climb from about 2:30pm/3:pm to 5pm. Up till now I have used the 'mountain' near the Nambu Bus Terminal, but would prefer to find something longer and more challenging. The 'mountain' near the Nambu Terminal only takes about 20 -30 minutes to the top, depending on the speed. I like to 'race' up the mountain, but willing to go slowly if company demands it.

Next week, I am planning on trying the mountain near the Seoul National University.

limiting yourself to the gangnam area won't get you a lot of responses. northwest seoul there is, of course, bukhansan.

in the southeast there's a range...somewhere on the pink line and you take a local bus from there (great directions, right?) - i believe the name is namhansanseong - there's a semi-interesting fort wall there.

not to be confused with nam han san in central seoul - you could always do that one as well, but it's obviously a bit less nature-y.
