Is this a joke?

If not, tell us the e-mail address of the school.

They should be inundated with inquiries about the offer.

OK Lush,

Is it a real contract or something someone cooked up for a laugh? My gut tells me it's a hoax....

The wretchedness is just too perfect......

If I think about the paranoia some bosses have about foreigners, along with the greed factor concerning rip-offable newbies, then this contract could very well be real.

Article 1a. (Conditions of Employment)
[1] The Employee attests that they cannot speak or read the Korean language and that this will not change significantly during the duration of the contract.
[2] The Employee attests that they are of Caucasian (white) descent and that they have no blood Asian relatives*.
[3] The Employee attests that this is the first trip outside their county of origin for the purpose of work.

*Talk about being specific. They forgot to mention that hair must be blond, and eyes blue Wink

6] The Employer will offer a meal plan to the Employee. The meal plan will cost 9,500 won per meal*at the Institute. This will give the Employee an opportunity to eat healthy and delicious Korean meals at a deeply discounted price*.

*I agree, I hate paying 12,000 won for my delicious Korean meal. Laughing

I agree... It's like someone took every complaint about work conditions on this board and put it into a contract.

Yeah, it's hoax.

I'm not an expert on how Korean's do business, but I didn't seen anything that specific, well thought out, or litigious minded while I was over there. Why wouldn't the boss just ask questions like "Will this be your first time overseas?" in an interview. A hogwan's regular modus operandi makes a lot more sense: send a badly written contract and abuse the life out of the teacher when they show up. Wonjonnim might as well be saying "bend over and think of England" from the other side of the world with this contract.

It's still pretty funny, though.

Maybe the director was having a day when he could not tell a lie.

My favourites
===================
[2] The Employee will be issued 2 (two) whiteboard markers every 3 (three) months provided a properly filled out requisition slip is submitted.

[4] The Employee shall be expected to keep the classroom presentable. This includes the floor, table, chairs, walls, door and windows. The employee shall empty the classroom trash at the end of each day. A broom, bucket and mop will be issued to the employee at the beginning of employment. These must be returned as serviceable or a replacement fee of 30,000 won will be deducted
=====================

Man this has gotta be a hoax. Laughing

It is funny, but I'm not entirely convinced it's a clever fake. I've seen a metric buttload of contracts here (as I'm sure many of you have) and though this is the most pathetically hilarious, it's not in form or content that different than other real ones I've seen.

Where the OP? C'mon, spill! If it were fake, you think somebody'd be taking credit for their cleverness by now....

Yep- it's a fake. I took the model contract from EFL-LAW's page and modified it over a 2 hour period. Sorry for the deception but that was part of the fun Twisted Evil

Next time I will have to remember to include penalty clauses for forgetting to turn off lights / fan and for not closing the windows in the classroom!

Hope everyone had a good laugh!

Here is the "source" http://www.efl-law.com/samplecontract.html

*shakes fist in mock-Shatnerian operatic rage*

Curse you, you scamp! Well done, though.

Still, a good primer on the kind of things one can expect, even if they're not in the contract.
