In North America, I am quite surprised at how many people drive them. I've even heard people say they're good cars here. Still, after living in Korea and seeing the "bhali, bhali" work mentality, I can't see myself ever buying one. My apartment in Korea is not well constructed in my opinion (poor plumbing and poor noise insulation), so how can I trust Korean cars?

The Korean car-makers have got their act together nowadays. They realized that, without a high level of quality, they would never compete in the all-important markets of USA and Europe. Places where they can sell their cars with a high profit margin. So, against their nature of bali-bali and cutting corners, they have implemented measures to ensure quality. Hyundai have won a few international awards for reliability.

I bought a new Kia Carens last week. 18mill. That would be about 25mill in the UK. It's about the same price in the USA though. Cars have always been cheaper in USA. So far, it's been delightful.

Reviews for Hyundais speak for themselves.

In the past 5 years, Hyundai has transformed to become a very good car company.

KIA (hyundai) now fills the void as the cheap car brand. Brilliant move on Hyundai's part.

I bought a new Hyundai Tucson about a year ago. I love it. I have had no problems and I would recommend buying one. Having a desil engine is pretty good. My Tucson gets better milage than my old Hyundai Avante got me. I would buy another Tucson in a second. So yes, I would.

I had an older one, the same as the taxis (sonata?). Great car, cheap and reliable, I'd liken it to a 90's toyota corrolla, started every time in the snow etc. Good stuff.

Yea, but how do they stack up in accidents?
Reliability is fine, however is the car going to be as safe as a Saab, or will it fall apart like the Chinese Chery?

Hyundai Motor is operating an assembly/manufacturing plant in the States, too. A few of my friends from university are working there in Alabama. Apart from the intrinsic engineering aspect I don't know about in-depth, the manufacturing and quality control seems pretty good.

However, it is generally thought that domestic Hyundai cars (for consumption in Korea) lacks a little behind in quality even with higher prices than the equivalent exports.

...probably not. although, the Tucson has won a number of awards this year or 2006??

however, it's strange how you never see any Hyundais on the street older than 2000.?? whereas, i see 92, 93 Civics everywhere, or 94 95 Camry's all over the place...

but look who's to speak, ive got a 91 Peugeot 405 US Model!!

we bought a hyundai elantra last week. It has performed well. Took it down to Kyeoungju this weekend and no problems. Its about 14 years old n it was pretty cheap

Hyundai cars built for for markets outside of Korea are higher quality than those built for the domestic market.
