I am completely not savvy when it comes to fixing anything on my computer, especially when it comes to malware/spyware. I have gone on websites and tried to run programs, but some want me to go into DOS, which I have no idea how to do. Would somoene be willing to help me fix this? By help, I mean actually work on my computer... I have had the virus for 4 days, I think. I will buy drinks and some food for the person who cleans this up.

Below is a link about the virus, but the real name of it is "W32/NewMalware-LSU-based!Maximus."

Thanks Sad

I assume that you have run the anti virals in safe mode (hold down F8 while starting up)? also make sure you turn your system restore before running the anti virals.

other than that good luck

Where are you? This is probably best solved in person, since you are "not savvy" and you can actually cause some problems doing it incorrectly

Right, as I said before, I cannot work in DOS mode. I have no idea what any of that stuff means. I downloaded a Trend Micro 30 day program, and it got rid of all kinds of spyware, but the Trojan virus is still in my computer.

I am in Daechi, near Hanti Station. If anyone can come over and help, like I said before, I'll buy you food and drink.

There are some very good completely free antivirus software programs.

You can find them at downloads.com. Go to advanced search and specify free and your OS.

Here's one I used for several months with Vista. It worked flawlessly and smoothly, AVG anti-virus:

http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10726661.html?tag=lst-0-2

I even used it for awhile at the same time as Symantec, I believe.

AVG has some other options for removing viruses you may find helpful. Go to their website.

Sometimes you can get away with running two antivirus programs, sometimes not. Your best bet is to uninstall one before immediately loading the other, in my opinion.

You can also find Microsoft's malicious software removal tool at downloads.com:

http://www.download.com/Microsoft-Windows-Malicious-Software-Removal-Tool/3000-8022_4-10698402.html?tag=lst-0-1

You can run this independently of Windows update or an anti-virus program.

There is no reason to use your computer without anti-virus protection. I say this not just for the OP, but for everyone.

For spyware, I use ad-aware SE personal. Free. Easy. No problems.

But there are other spyware programs.

These should be fairly easy to use. But, yes, you should be careful not to make things worse.

I know how to use DOS, but I have not needed to use it with Windows in a long time, except for some minor commands that are essentially shortcuts for Windows functions. You probably don't need to fool around with DOS.

Sorry to bring this up again, but I really need help.

The IT guy at my work wants to recover the laptop, which is the last thing I want to resort to.

I have a Trend Micro program, which is cleaning up spy/malware, but the virus is still in there.

I went to the link I had previously posted here for the fixtool, but it is missing a pattern file. That file is not offered on the Trend Micro site anymore, so the support staff is attempting to find it and sent it to me, but that has already taken a week for them to get back to me.

Can anymore come over this week and try to fix it? PM me if you are interested. I live near Hanti Station in Daechi.

Back up your DATA to another system, school network, school computer or upload it to your e-mail account then blow off the old system and do a full restore.

Quick, easy, clean and efficient.

Then put new anti-virus software on your computer and download your data back to your computer.

Offload all your data to a External Drive.

Fdisk your system and start from scratch.

Best cleanest easiest.

Make sure you have an up to date virus protection on your new install before reloading your data.

Nope... back up the data to ANOTHER system....

Restore your system to a new state (format the drive and make a new install of windows).
