Well actually its just one screw that I need to put in, which makes it all the worse. There are already holes with plastic thingies in them for the other three spots that I need to put up the window shades in my apartment, but it would be nice to get the last one up so that my neighbor doesn't have a direct view of me wiping my butt.
So, how did you get the holes into your concrete walls?
Is it a special tool you have to buy?
Just go neandertal on it with a big-azz hammer?
Nag your boss until they took care of it?
Play charades with an ajussi in a blue bongo until he understood what you wanted?
Please let me know the details of how to get that sucker in there.
Thanks,

We use a drill. Ask your doorguy. He might have some kind of tool that he will let you borrow. |

The best way to minimize chipping is to drill a tap hole with an electric drill. maybe your school has one kicking around.
Drill one size smaller than your screw is.
If you can't get a drill, use a cement nail and hammer, to hammer in a tap hole. You only need to go in a couple of centimeters.
However, before attempting to hammer the nail into the wall, lay down some scotch tape like an asterisk (*). This will keep the concrete from chipping as you hammer. |

Follow the instructions above to put in the hole.
Get some of the "plastic thingies" (MOLLYs) from the hardware shelf in your local e-mart / hardware store and tap one into the hole.
Screw in your screw.
Be happy. |

You could try the above. Or, you could do what I did. Get angrier and angrier as you hammer away futilely, standing on a rickety chair in the living room, until you take one last all-powerful whack, hit the nail a glancing blow causing it to somehow ricochet out of the hole and out of sight. A quick perusal of the room would reveal the nail sticking about a half-centimeter into the adjoining wall.
I learned two things from this.
1: I am damn lucky not to have earned the nickname One-Eye that day.
2: No matter how much a hurry you're in, buy a freaking drill! |

Hi,
You could try a concrete nail (tough blighters, but tape your mouth shut before you start: the neighbourds will learn some new english )
You can get the wee plastic inserts (rawl jacks/plugs in Scotland) and then insert a screw to fill a drilled hole, but...
What we done for everything in our pad thats under 2 kilo or so, was to buy them small hooks on plastic backing. They have wax which you melt before sticking on the wall hot.
So simple, made our lives easier here.
We did get the owner to get one of his guys to drill a hole for a large framed painting. |

OP,
This is correct. In sum, drill a hole into the wall (using a drill with a CONCRETE DRILL BIT).
Then, get an anchor and lightly hammer it into the drilled hole (***note*** make sure the drill bit's tip is the same size as the width of the anchor's body)
Then, just screw the screw into the anchor. The anchor itself will automatically open up inside creating a lot of tension.
Poof. Done! |

Many thanks for the helpful info.
Guess I'll go on a search for an electric drill.

Get one with a cord. Those with batteries are not strong enough. |

I would not invest in a drill just to put a nail in a wall. It's your call. |
