"The much-vaunted protection for the APEC summit was peeled away with embarrassing ease yesterday by satirists armed with hire cars flying Canadian flags." I'm not sure if Chas Licciardello is Canadian or Aussie? |

They are Australians who chose to pretend to be Canadian because they thought it was a fairly neutral nation.
It was actually pretty hilarious that after all of the security such a thing was so easy to do.
They were wearing passes labelled 'Insecurity Pass' for Heaven's sake.

The Chaser team bailed after APEC stunt
September 06, 2007 08:05pm
ELEVEN crew from the ABC comedy show The Chaser have been charged and granted bail following their arrest in Sydney today over a fake motorcade.
Julian Morrow and Chas Licciardello, two of the on-screen stars of the satirical TV program The Chaser's War on Everything, were among 11 detained by police.
The fake motorcade had been staged as part of an APEC week stunt.
The 10 men and one woman tonight were charged under newly legislated APEC laws with entering a restricted area without justification.
The crew members were in the convoy which was reportedly ushered through two checkpoints in Sydney's APEC restricted security zone.
The convoy was pulled over in Macquarie Street in a block adjacent to the InterContinental Hotel, where US President George W. Bush is a guest during the APEC summit.
Licciardello was reportedly dressed as Osama bin Laden, causing further embarrassment to security forces.
All 11 were granted bail to appear in the Downing Centre Local Court on October 4.
Head of the APEC Investigation Squad, Detective Superintendent Ken McKay said The Chaser team was not entitled to any preferential treatment by police.
"While it appears it was a prank, the current APEC security environment isn't the place to do it in," he said.
"Who they are is irrelevant, they were charged like anyone else who breaks the law."
In a statement police listed those charged as people ranging in age from 25 to 47 from Sydney addresses.
It said they were arrested by APEC Investigation Squad detectives under laws that restrict anyone from entering declared zones during APEC. |

"THREE members of ABC TV's The Chaser team have been questioned by police after strapping on cardboard cars complete with Canadian flags and "driving" through central Sydney.
In a send-up of yesterday's prank in which the comedians drove a fake motorcade through security checkpoints, Craig Reucassel, Chris Taylor and Dominic Knight were this afternoon on the streets filming a new segment for their show, The Chaser's War on Everything.
The trio dressed in black cardboard boxes shaped like limousines, complete with Canadian flags on the front and paper plates as wheels."
