Please tell me there's someone out there who also believes this is the best album to come out this year (or at least in the top three).
Like all their albums, this one takes quite a bit of time to get used to. Please give it some time.
Probably the most important band of the decade. |

haven't heard it yet, but everything else they do is magic. they're the most accessable (read: poppy and likable) experimental indie band out there, and they have been for a while.
looking forward to hearing it. |

Really? Most accessible? I feel that only half of Sung Tongs, pretty much all of Feels and the new one are accessible. Their early stuff is great, but hard to listen to sometimes.
What other experimental/poppy stuff do you like? I'm always on the lookout for new music. Modern stuff that comes to mind for me is Brightblack Morning Light, Broadcast, Deerhoof, Battles, US Maple, Fennesz, Grizzly Bear, Antony and the Johnsons, Liars, to name a few.
Good to find another into this sort of thing. |

meh....
AC can do no wrong but Strawberry Jam isn't their strongest. In terms of "most accessible" I'd vote for Feels.
It's nice to see there is a thread dedicated to the topic though! |

Strawberry Jam is still growing on me, but I know I will end up loving it.
If anyone is looking for new music, my fiance and friend upload some new albums on their blog pretty regularly: http://ongakubaka.blogspot.com/

Animal Collective is not my thing. Overrated in the extreme. One good song (The Purple Bottle) and a whole lot of shapeless crap. |

Billy Pilgrim, I'm really surprised that someone who likes Sonic Youth and Velvet Underground would be so quick to call AC shapeless crap. (Some of VU's stuff off Nico and White Light border on shapelessness, but I love it nonetheless)
I agree that some of their music noodles a bit, but virtually all the tracks off Feels have a definite song structure.
I'm not going to argue with your opinion, but it sounds like you haven't given AC the adequate amount of listening they deserve. |

I haven't heard SJ yet...
I like Animal Collective mucho. Check out Final Fantasy (the band, not game) and Panda Bear for similarly odd but catchy stuff. |

LOVE Final Fantasy. I mean, how could you not love someone who can get away with an album titled He Poos Clouds. |

Oh, I've tried, but how much time do I have to give them? I've listened to Feels about 5 times, and Strawberry Jam 3 times, and there's nothing there for me. Sonic Youth has more shape than people give them credit for, but I'll take their guitar-based rawk over the cut-and-paste Beach Boys rip-off marching band psychedelica any day - there are no tunes, no bite, no edge. It's dull through and through.
Except for The Purple Bottle. That's a good song. Well crafted, chugging and engaging. They've made nothing else like it that I've heard. |

True, true. Tried them a couple years ago. Tried them more recently. TV on the Radio do a similar thing but better and even they don't really do it for me.

Panda Bear's in the same boat. One decent song and then meh.
Billy, if you like SY and VU then you might like the Liars. Only current band that I really dig. The new album is a little bit of a departure, more traditionally song structured, and the titles are beyond embarassing (non-sequitar is dead, give it up people) but try the album Drum's Not Dead. |
