|
|
I know there are threads about this already... many very recent.
I'm just asking this to all Gyeongi public middle and high school teachers now..
Our "orientation" is scheduled for next week, the 17th through the 21st, supposedly.
Has ANYONE heard any other details from their school? Did the elementary school orientation even happen this week?
My school has no clue what's going on and I've not heard anything except that I must plan to be there by the 17th. |

I think my KT told me last week when the other one was cancelled that the person she spoke to said that the info would be out Thursday this week. I will check when I get back from a class now.

Are you guys all new teachers (i.e. new to Korea and public school teaching), cos when I spoke to one of the coordinators yesterday, they said they were only doing the orientation for the new teachers... |

That's a great point! Cuz, the last one was too full and part of the problem were teachers who had already been to it. |

I think this time they might have been better at who they were targetting for the Orientation ... The new people from my area were among those who were cancelled at the last minute from the last one because of the numbers ... We only had to wait several months (4-5) until the next one was scheduled .... And then to have people complain about having to go when they were not new to Korea or to public schools or to ESL teaching was not good when the people who were cancelled on included many who were new to both ...

My school tried to get me to go to the one last spring and I flat our refused. They told me about a month ago that I have to go to this one, but again I refused and told them I would just show up here at school. They haven't mentioned anything about the camp since then.
If you've got at least a couple of years experience in Korea then I see no reason why you should have to go. The SMOE orientation sounded like it was well organized and would be quite fun to go to, but the last GEPIK orientation sounded like a drunk fest with teachers passed out all over the resort. |

The SMOE orientation may have been more organized but I heard it was a more chaotic party than EPIK or GEPIK.
I've been in Korea before. I'm just new to the public school thing. What kind of people are in charge of this thing? |

Yeah, well I am a new teacher (been here for two months). Haven't attended one yet. I am looking forward to a week of not teaching. I emailed the Gepik native english speaker coordinator to ask about it and got back and auto reply saying that he could not read his email due to being at the elementary school orientation. If you hear anythign keep me posted |

It's worthwhile. You'll laugh at the abominations, pull your hair out at some of the lectures, enjoy others, meet some good people, watch some idiots, and the handbook does have alot of stuff in it. You can download the 2006 at the CGE website:
http://gepik.ken.go.kr/r/bbs/board.php?bbs_code=f_orientation
Just noticed they posted the May 2007 one on there too; there's def. good stuff in it. |

O.K. It's Thursday. I actually want to go to this orientation and learna few things and meet a few people.....yet still no invite or any information about the orientation! I know the elementary one is going on this week. If anyone reads this who is at the elementary orientation, when did you get the invitation? I am afraid that my K teachers aren't telling me or something, because they don't want to handle my classes alone. Can my school deny my going? I have contacted Dain Bae and it was confirmed my name is on the invite list and she said I should receive information about it shortly.... and that was last week!~ |
