Now that the self-appointed holy crusader of Muslim fanaticism has reemerged in two recent videos--complete with black dyed beard--in an attempt to reclaim his imagined throne, it compels me to ask a couple straightforward questions.

1. What crime(s) would you punish Osama bin Laden for if you were given the opportunity or duty to do so?

2. Handed a guilty verdict, how would you carry out the punishment if the decision were yours alone to make?

I myself would try him for crimes against humanity, but not in The Hague, since the punishment meted out wouldn't fit the crime in my book. Better to try him for acts of terrorism in the U.S. under new federal guidelines allowing capital punishment.

I would not hang or electrocute him, or inject him. I would consider letting one of the family members of one of his countless victims take a rusty saw to his neck, inform him of that intention, and then at the last moment rescind the order.

But then again, perhaps it would be even more fitting to put him in a high building set for demolition, set it ablaze, and give him just minutes shy of enough time to escape by blocking exits. Then again, that would be too dramatic and quick.

No, instead, I would really like to lock him away in a dungeon, his only entertainment videotape of the grieving families of his victims and some Christian psalms and Jewish folk dance songs piped in. Perhaps a hard cot, a squat toilet (no toilet paper) or even repeated showings of Chuck Norris films. Rubbing fresh pork grease on his cell walls on a regular basis might be a nice touch too. Actually, I'd settle for solitary confinement, no chance for parole, and the standard issue prison Bible (in Arabic) by his bedside. And around-the-clock triple guard duty to prevent him from cutting short his remaining time on Earth.

We should kill bin Laden. He threatens us and has demonstrated his resolve to bring as much harm to us as he can accomplish. He encourages others to do so. There are no limits to what he would do. If he had nukes, he would not hesitate to use them.

We should kill him to stop him from doing more damage, then. And we should kill him as humanely as we can. No more no less. And no political speeches or last words, either -- from anyone. I feel about the same emotion as I would in putting down a rabid dog.

We kill him; we show the world's media his body; we allow anyone who wants to verify it is his body to do so. Then we move on to more important matters in our lives.

Gopher:

I'm inclined to agree with you: and definitely do it without fanfare.

I say withold his just for men beard dye. If he is found guilty execute him like any other prisoner so he can go tap those 40 virgins. Kinda surprises me that this war has been going on for a while and nobody has figured out that they WANT TO DIE, THEY ARE RELIGIOUS NUTCASES.

That isn't very nice to those virgins. How come nobody ever asks them what they want?

The question is HOW would you punish him.

list everything the Koran prohibits muslims from doing and make him do it. Then end him.

My biggest gripe with Osama Bin Laden is that he is unauthorized to issue any fatwas in the first place. It's like someone without a degree teaching in Korea.

THAT is your biggest gripe? Not mass-murder? Though, I guess. Che avatar and all.

Bjwd, you're incorrigible. And just as fanatical as any Al Qaeda recruit in your antithesis. Imho, OBL should be executed. That's assuming he's not dead already. There are no moving pictures of OBL in the latest video release. Nor is there any verifiable recent footage of him. I just hope they do a better job with his execution than the botched hanging of Sadaam Whosux.

You say your "biggest problem" with the world's leading terrorist is that he doesn't have the religious authority to tell others to kill and I'M the fanatical one? You are more ideologically married to the multicultural "religion of peace" fantasy than I could ever be to ANY of my opinions.

That is, right, Dome Vans; that is what I said.

First, it is "Saddam." Second, who are "they?"

I think it would be a hoot if the Americans actually caught OBL and put him on trial in the states, in a regular courtroom.

I cannot believe the orders are to capture and arrest him if American forces locate him.
