I'm thinking about buying a dog while I'm living in Seoul. Does anyone know what I'll need to do in order to bring it back to Canada when I'm done teaching here? I'm guessing I need records of his shots, etc., but I'm wondering if anyone has done this so I know exactly what I have to do.

Make sure there is no quarantine....The dog may have to stay isolated for a few months.

Also, remember the cost of transporting the dog to Canada.

Have you checked the embassy website?

I checked the canadian embassy website but couldn't find anything. I'm sure the info is there, but there was too much to search through. Can anyone else help?

Wait I found it!!!!

Go here for pet immigration to Canada:

http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/heasan/import/petse.shtml

If the dog is not temporarily visiting Canada, you may have to get permit.

Wow, thanks for all of your help. You actually picked up the phone and made a call for me! I actually found that link also, and it looks like everything will be ok. All I need is a letter from a vet stating he's had all of his shots. I guess the main problem is the cost of flying him back to Canada. It's going to cost me around $500. Small price to pay though.
Thanks again.

One more question, I noticed you live in Kangnam. Have you ever been to the Praha Castle? If so, do you know if they serve Mestan beer? What's the food like? I lived in Prague a few years ago and I really miss it.

I have not been there, nor do I know what that beer is, but I'd be willing to try it.....

I know there are a few microbrewries here....

My wife and I are taking her dog back to the US. The travel agent called northwest airlines, and they said it would cost USD 130 to fly it back. We have to buy a cage for the dog to ride in.

God I am completely jealous! The UK has strict laws on importing animals into its hallowed grounds, and requires a 6 month period in quarantine for a cat or dog brought in from South Korea (Hmmmm... I wonder why?)

I'd love to rescue a dog from one of the APPALLING pet dog shops here (back home 90% of them would be closed down) My BF witnessed a guy in one of those places drag two adult spaniels into their cage by the ears (They'd escaped, poor darlings) then grab them by their muzzles, squeezing on them until they were crying out in pain (he said he could see the guy's veins sticking out, he was gripping so hard) and then repeatedly smacking their faces together. Despicable Evil or Very Mad . It was all I could do to stop my BF from taking the guy out after we left the place.

Please just think long and hard about where you get the dog from. A lot of these places breed purely for profit, and you could well end up with a sick or weak dog on your hands, which could cost you a LOT of money in the long run, not to mention much heartache. (I speak from quite a few years experience of working in the pet trade here)
