I'm just wondering about the appeal of two "comedians" from your native land. They would be Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel, who also happen to be dating. Silverman hosted the MTV awards, and Kimmel has the late night show.

Do any of you find them funny, and why?

My take: Silverman just cuts people down, which is rarely funny, and especially from her.

Kimmel: I was convinced his atrocity of a late night show would fold in the first 2 weeks, but it's still on years later. This guy is like Leno (who is weak), only without the jokes, delivery, polish, or likeability. Seriously, is this a direct result of the 500 channel universe, where anyone can be a "star"?

(Current Events Forum because Silverman hosted the Awards, and made a crack at Britney, which was, of course, unoriginal and not funny).

Canada. Wondering if Americans' senses of humour are that different. I think not.

the sad thing is out of all the "comedians" i have seen listed the only one that was worth his weight would have been john candy. I do miss him, and the eighties was a great time to be alive. And how come no one ever seems to remember spaceballs, or canadian bacon?

Kimmel is not in competition with Leno or Letterman.

Nightline competes in that time sl;ot.

Kimmel is competing with the other two post midnite guys Conan O'Brien and Craig Furgeson.

This was hysterical! I laughed so damn hard that I gave myself a headache! Shocked

The big difference between that youtube clip and Silverman is that the Lisa Lampanelli is funny and it's obvious that she actually gave her jokes some thought first. Silverman just stood up there and said the most random obvious shit that she could think of off the top of her head. I mean hello "I have diarrhea??" That shit....no pun intended...was not funny...

Masta_Don...Silverman is on tv...In fact, she has the highest rated show on comedy central. How fucked is that? Her show isn't funny either....

#1....This garbage...*shakes head, turns on tv and happily watches gag concert...(At least that's funny Rolling Eyes )*

I don't know either of the comedians, but was struck by the above. Do some people just not understand irony?

I wasn't trying to get a laugh. That's the difference. Wink

Considering he goes on five nights a week and writes most of his own material, it's amazing..

Where did you hear that? It's been well-known for years that Leno pays US$500 for every joke that makes it into his monologue. A joke writer could make a handsome living if just one of his "bits" made it on the air every night of the week.

No one finds them funny.

One thing you got to understand about 'Americans'. Some of the TV stuff is good and creative and original and great.

But a large portion of it is just $$$$$$$$$$$$ and corporations and connections. I don't know much about Silverman, but she strikes me as someone who is just very very very well-connected.

Same opinion here. Always liked Letterman the most. Leno is good too. Hell anything that makes ya laugh any time is good I reckon.

Conan is by far the best.

As far as standups, Eugene Mirman is good. Also, Jim Gaffigan is a very funny, rather clean stand-up, as is Maria Bamford. Patton Oswalt is good too, but raunchier. David Cross' first album was fantastic.

Silverman is relatively new on the mainstream comic scene. First impression was notable due to the fact that she is cuter than most women comedians and her material was just sooo raw. A unique mix. However, her routine is getting old and I just dont think she has lasting talent.

Kimmel ive only seen a couple of times and at times has some quick wit, but that's all i know about him.

As others on the board i find Conan OBrien hilarious. He is perfect for our generation, as he has the right mix of slapstick wackiness and witty sharpness. Leno and Letterman are nice but alittle boring and out of date to me, never really found either that funny.

Sarah Silverman is just boring and cliched. I tried to watch her special but it gave me a headache. Really good comedians: David Cross, Chris Farley, John Candy, Larry David, and all the squiggly comedians that appeared on the Dr.Katz show...any comedian is funny in squigglevision.

I love Conan and when I watched AFN, I was pissed to never see him. Instead, I saw atrocious Craig Ferguson. He's worse than Silverman or Kimmel. I'd rather watch Carrot Top than that w@nker [can you believe that word is censored??].
