Hey for those of you that have re-signed at a school, did you ask for the flight money? As far as I can see if i were to re-sign at my school i would be deserving of the flight out money at the end of my contract, plus the flight in money at the beginning of the new contract and a flight out (or the money). They're gonna have to pay this anyway if I leave, so why shouldn't they give it to me?

A lot of contracts have a clause that specifically states you only get the return airfare when you finally leave, not between extensions.

Time to dig out your negotiation skills.

At Renewal Time:

Boss, My contract is finished. Please give me airfare, severance and everything else to complete my contract.

Now that is settled, I want to return to Korea. Are you interested in hiring me? New contract, new terms.

I would like the price of the ticket back to Korea, a raise in pay, etc.

If they agree, you get it all.

If they do not, time to move on so you get it anyway.

Written list when you come to the negotiation table. People tend to forget things. I'd throw in more vacation days. Three (3) more days is fine. If your boss is doing very well financially then he/she certainlly can afford a 150,000 - 200,000 Korean Won raise.

I love it.

I was burned on airfare when I was a spineless newbie. You deserve it for sure. Especially since they'll save recruiter's fees if you stay.

Now I just have to work on getting money in place of airfare at public schools.

I paid 750 000 for a ticket to thailand at the end of my last contract (i was renewing) but my ticket said 1.3 million, so that was what was deposited into my account! I felt bad about it for a few seconds!
