I'm heading to Gwangju tonight and I was hoping someone might be able to give me the name and/or directions to a hotel near the KTX station. Nothing to posh or expensive, but i'd also like to avoid cockroach infestations...

Thanks.

There's gonna be yeogwans all over near the KTX station. I've never stayed in Gwangju, but usually, yeogwans are decent places and I've never seen a c.ockroach in one.

You can ask to see rooms before you pay, too. Look for the sauna sign to locate yeogwans, it looks like 3 lines of steam rising.

Also, there's usually new buildings that say "hotel." These are pricer, but nicer and newer.

Does that particular station only use KTX class trains, or can you get there by Mugunhwa or Samael Ho? Never heard of a dedicated station like that.

Just curious.

I used called it the KTX station since I don't know what the station is called. I have never been to the city, but I know the KTX stops there, at a station... hence the KTX station. It's likely the general train station, but I don't know how many train stations Gwangju has.

It is probably just called Gwangju Station then. Most are named that way. Thanks. That is what I tell the clerk.

No specific recommendations, but there are motels near Gwangju Station. When I searched on Naver a few of the people in the Q and A section said "on the right," so exit and go that way. I'd suspect they'd all be fairly identical. When I'm looking for a motel, and I want to avoid a roach motel, I just avoid the ones that look like they're probably roach motels.

Anyway, folks on the Naver Q and A say that the "Koreana" motel is decent, and 35,000 a night. There's also one next door that's 30,000.

Exit the front doors and turn to your right. There are several yongwans on the right. They should cost you from 30,000 to 35,000 a night.
