Canada is looking good against Wales at the moment
Maybe another wee upset coming up |
Or maybe not! Canada started well but a game is 80 minutes not just 1 half, at this level you gotta be able to play strong for a full match. At the end of the day the Canadians simply aren't exposed to enough top level rugby to be able to cause an upset
As for England yesterday, they're gonna find it tough against the springboks next week and need to pull their finger out if they're gonna make it to the QF |

G.o.d. i hope NZ doesnt win it again cos if they do when i get back to NZ we'll never hear the end of the 'they're gods not men' syndrome and all the usual rugby BS that dominates the media in godzone
Most of the world doesnt give a toss about the stup1d game anyway. I know i dont. I play and follow the true world game 'Football'. |
rugby is NZ's national game for f*cks sake. I hate it how football fans in NZ have to define their passion by how much they hate rugby. why dont you move somewhere else if you dont like the coverage. |

Too true, but I think bench depth also played a part. When you can throw on players the likes of Stephen Jones and Gareth Thomas as subs, you're doing well. As soon as those two were introduced, the game was turned on its head.
I thought Canada played well for 50 minutes. Unfortunately, the match lasts 80 minutes. Wifey was well chuffed, but at the end of the day they just aren't good enough to beat the top sides. |

It takes two to tango. Many NZers have a real anti-football bias. Comments such as "I like all sports but soccer" etc. are quite common. Thankfully the old fashioned "Soccer is for girls/poofs" is less common though you can hear it now and then. Personally, I'm happy to follow both codes and find the cr*p that sometimes comes from both sides childish. |

'Gods, not men?' The only time even something remotely resembling this kind of sycophantic remark was when the AB's won in 1987, but the game had only just emerged as professional then. Anyone with even a sideways glance at the NZ sports media would know that there is no harder position to be in than an All Black - who are constantly criticized for winning and losing.
You clearly know nothing about the game or it's history, probably because you failed as a rugby player or were bullied at school by them. I feel sorry that you feel disconnected from your country because of a sport. But then again, if the best national team in the sport I liked was as bad as the NZ Knights are at soccer, I'd be bitter and twisted as well. |

Rugby isn't exactly a high profile sport in Canada. |

South Africa were fantastic.
England have a job on their hands to beat Samoa, along with the Tongans they are going home in an ambulance I'm afraid.
Anyway! Wales vs Australia tomorrow! |

Can't wait for Wales-Aus game...game of the first round for sure
England should've played Dallaglio....Ashton is as clueless as Robinson
Proud to be a Springbok today....I wish we always play with such composure....maybe hot-headed Burger should stay suspended^^ |

If Burger and the Springboks got wound up against Samoa, whats going to happen when you play Tonga? Them men are assasins.
It is going to take a lot to stop the Springboks though, they had excellent pace even late on in the game, if I was a Kiwi I would be worried.
Wales have been giving the Aussies a run for their money of late! So with a bit of luck Wales can get a result tomorrow! |

I would love it if Wales won...that would mean NZ have to possibly face AUS, France and SA on three consecutive weekends |

I've been traveling around NZ and Australia the last few months and it was interesting observing people during the Rugby World Cup. In New Zealand especially, everyone was sure the All Blacks would win it. There was a lot a lot of hard criticism directed at the Northern Hemisphere nations, on the lines they should stick to soccer. I found those comments somewhat amusing. If they were to stick to soccer, then how many competent rugby playing nations would that leave? 3? 4? Seriously, wouldn't that make pretending that rugby matters and is an international sport even more difficult than it already is? It seemed to me that NZrs truly believe that anyone really cares about this sport.
Anyway, the "useless" northern hemisphere obviously needed time to get into gear, given that obviously the rugby playing season was just starting in those parts.
Anyway, NZ, cheer up! You will win it in 4 years time on home soil. Unfortunately this won't remove the chocker tag, as it will be on home soil. However, that won't matter because having spent time in your country, I can see that you are good at deluding yourselves. |
