With so many people heading out of town, and so many shops closing up, what all is everyone planning for the holiday?

I am not doing anything too special. One of my Korean friends and her family asked me to take part in their activities in their father's hometown. Should be a fun week. Razz

Do you think it will be to late to buy bus/train tickets to get out of Seoul? I want to go to Samcheok and Chuncheon.

I'm sure they were last year. There was also a big festival outside city hall with music and dancing and stuff. That's where I'll probably be going.

Not sure, but last year it was on the actual "Chuseok Day." Chuseok day is the Tuesday this year, so I'm guessing it'll probably be then.

express bus still runs from seoul and I think train does, too. Dont need tickets in advance, probably... well, being as that its a holiday, you might need them a little more in advance than normal.

I was considering China a couple months ago, but I never got around to getting a flight. Obviously, the flights have been booked for a while, so it's no big deal. A couple of my friends might take a boat over to Japan, but I might just save up my money for Thailand in November.

Uh, anyone going to Thailand in late November?

I suppose I'll just practice my guitar, play WOW, study Korean, and exercise. (Screw those loud gyms for cardio. I climb the stairs in my apartment.)

Obviously you don't know how boring this will be.
Bring a suit.

I'll be going to the inlaws. Thinking of buying a PSP for the week.

I've never been to a Korean family's home over Chuseok. What's so boring about it? What goes on?

I have some really original ideas:
Play Go Stop
Eat Rice Cakes
Spend 3 days stuck in a traffic jam.

I learned long ago not to travel on Korean holidays. Massive traffic jams are not my idea of a restful, exciting or entertaining day off work.

I thought ahead. I ordered a pile of books which arrived yesterday, so I'm set in the reading department. I went to the grocery store early yesterday morning, so that's taken care of except for one item which I need to go to Itaewon to get. I have my paints ready so there will be no problem with that. On Chuseok day itself, I'm having a couple of students over for home-made pizza or lasagna, I haven't decided which.

I also got enough cash out of the ATM on Friday to last me through the holiday--no running out of money for me.

PS: To the poster asking if it was too late to get train tickets: YES, it is. You are a month or more late.
