I'm looking for a nice 4 star hotel on the beach in Penang. I'm expecting to pay around 100,000 won a night. Any advice? |

I stayed there several years ago, on my first trip to Malaysia: it was terrific. The rates seem reasonable but check asia-hotels.com and/or asiarooms.com to verify them. Doesn't hurt to shop around... |

Hi there! Penang is a nice place to take some rest and recharge your batteries. We stayed at Paradise Sandy Bay hotel last year. The hotel is away from the city and by the beach. Unfortunately the beach isn't that good, but the hotel pool and other facilities weren't that bad. Price wasn't too bad either.
We rented a scooter (really cheap) and explored the island at out own pace. We even drove to the mainland to do some sightseeing. Aww... I wanna go there again! |

check out www.airasia.com
Air Asia is the low cost airline operating in South East Asia, but their website also has some very excellent hotel deals.
Gurney is classy hotel. I stayed there in February, it wasn't exactly high season and I paid about $75 NZD to stay there which is about 55000 won per night! and they up graded me to the executive suite for free. You can also ask for late check outs and you dont have to pay a cent, Malaysians are good like that.
I would also recommend Bayview Beach Resort on Batu Ferringhi Beach, I paid a similar price staying there in February. Batu Ferringhi has a beautiful beach.
Cheers
Chris

There's a Holiday Inn right on the beach. Don't know how expensive it is, though. Be careful -- you really can't swim on the beaches in Penang because of the jellyfish. |

My wife is from penang and I lived there many years.....stayed at alot of hotels and went all around.....here are your choices:
1.Gurney Hotel: It's located on the gurney drive where there is alot of clubs and a huge shopping mall called gurney and some nice food stalls mostly chinese but some nice indian food aswell.....The gurney Hotel has an awsome view depending on which floor you be on....
price: 70-80usd
2. Copthorne hotel: Its kind of old but a good budget place. Has access to a private beach but not the best beach in penang..nice breakfast...nice pool and near to gurney drive......
price: 35-40 usd
3. My fav.....Hydro majestic hotel batu ferengi.........: I love this place, stayed there 7 days on my last trip with the wife and kids to penang....It was the old ferengi beach but they have made some changes and it looks great now...the beach is 1 minute away..you have to cross the bridge which is part of the hotel to reach to the beach...but a nice beach in penang...beautiful rocks ,,,,I liked it very much.....Good breakfast,,one of the best breakfasts I had in a hotel at penang.....the rooms are nice....great for the price you pay....but they have these new rooms called orchids i think....they are new and cleaner,,but I prefer the old rooms and dont know why.....the staff are friendly and very kind...LOVE THAT PLACE....
Price: 50-55 usd
hope the above helps....enjoy your trip to penang......my second home....hehe |
