For all their talk about French and American arrogance, I've found poms to be the most arrogant people (in general) that I've ever met (well, except for that guy from Munich that was staying in the same hotel as me in Bangkok, he was like the German version of Butlerian).

Try looking in the mirror. You'll see one of the most arrogant, judgemental person to reside on Dave's.

not one good, original band has come out of england in 30 years. i challenge anyone to argue me on that.

30 years ago - that would be since 1977.

Some British bands I have liked in the last 30 years:

Sex Pistols, The Clash, Billy Idol, The Cure, Gorillaz, Oasis, The Pretenders, Radiohead, Sade, etc.

which part of my rant asserted any kind of canadian dominance over the realm of music? none. i just said everything from britain has sucked for at least 30 years. don't put words in my mouth, jerky.

It is me who is making the comparison Einstein.

I also married the observation with your comment about Brits being innocuous. boring even mate, you are from a nation renowned for boring people.

But lets talk music, British music in the last 30 years.

Madness, all 2-tone, The Jam, Suede, The Stone Roses, The Manic street preachers, The Charlatans (UK) Simple Minds, I like Ocean Colour Scene but some people don't. I liked the Thompson Twins but some people didn't, and say what you want but Duran Duran wrote some of the best pop songs of all time.

When the Soviet regime in 1984 and the Chinese regime in 1986 decided to invite a westen acts to perform in their country for the first time. They picked British bands! They didn't ask Glass Tiger, Men without hats or Konkan!

Don't let your biases blind the fact that this country produces good music. Always has done and always will.

The Klaxons are pretty good. We also came up with, developed and pioneered drum and bass music, which is now a world wide phenomenon.

okok... i'll concede and give you up until 1981. everything after that has been crap. most canadian music is crap too. ever wonder why people leave?

whoever said that drum and bass thing... go clean out your locker. security will escort you to the front gate.

the thing about brit music is this - just because there's so damned much of it, and the fact that thousands of people with shit taste like it - doesn't make it good.

you could say a similar thing about canadian music - just because there's so little of it doesn't mean it's some unique beautiful snowflake. that is directed to any and all fans of the tragically hip.

you're backing up your argument with the tastes of a bunch of people who had been living behind the iron curtain for 40something years. sounds like basing on the tastes of people who think contemporary british music is good.

i do love the English. but (a) they should be getting just as much crap as the USA gets (if not much, much more) for their rampant nation-building, imperialism, etc., that was only dulled by WWII.

(b) it's about time they respected their former colonies with less parental pride

(c) it's about time the Guardian et al. stopped giggling about how bad American football is. Dempsey, Bocanegra, Howard, McBride, Hahnemann, Convey, Friedel, Lichaj, Smith (Bolton), Spector, and Beasley (until he moved to Scotland) are all good enough to play in the Premiership. ooh, clever you! you made a crack about 'soccer'. *beep* off.

(d) they should acknowledge that English food is crap. fine, curry is good, but when did you acquire that, eh? is it a recent thing, you think?
