So yesterday KT came and installed a fiber optic connection.
It's a new building I moved into and the gas isn't even hooked up yet.
(Using a portable gas burner and it burst into flames; but that's another tale altogether) And yes, those of you who are wondering I ain't hearing any strange bugles or military sounds! Woo Hoo!
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=96912&highlight=

So back to me needing a bigger HDD. While the KT guy was here I checked bandwith place and the speed was a measly 700 kilobits per second. I had subscribed to the "light package". I asked him if he could upgrade me to the "premium package" He made a call and said all done!
I checked again and now it was 976 kilobits per second. Woo Hoo, a lousy 200+ kilobits per second increase for 3,000 Won more per month.

I had to go out and started utorrent ho hum...
CAME BACK AND ALL DOWNLOADS HAD FINISHED!?!?! Shocked
30 GB of all Star Trek TNG downloaded in just under 8 hrs!
All hail fiber optic connection!

How much for the internet service? It's 35,000 per month. But I think getting a fiber optic connection depends on there being a hub for that kind of thing in your building. Most 'villa' buildings won't have one. High-rise buildings usually have it.

Looks good but...can you explain why we should get it? 190,000 is pretty steep for a 7200, 500gig ext HDD!

Lacie puts in the cheapest, last-run hard drives in their products. I've read of nothing but failures with Lacie products.

With that said, you're better buying a Seagate drive and an external hard drive enclosure and putting them together. At least you'll know you're getting a good, recent drive that isn't one of the cheapest bulk block of hard drives that Lacie purchased to fill their setups.

If you want an external drive, get a Seagate internal SATA drive with an external case that supports eSata.

HDD: Seagate 7200.10 16MB 500GB - 110,000 won
Case: Look on danawa for eSata case - 35,000 won

TOTAL: 145,000. Much better than that LaCie you posted about.

I'm getting over 11mbps using folderplus. Shocked Western content is a bit limited, but most major films, TV series, etc. 350MB episode of Lost takes less than a minute to rip. Lovin' it...
