I've taken a job in Tongyeong starting Sept. 1.
Is anyone in Dave's-land working there?... or about to be this Sept.?
Reply here or PM me.
Thanks,
CM

It's a great place for a vacation in Korea. You'll love the area. Now about that school....middle school....hmmm.... |

I've been there a couple of times, its a really cool little coastal city. Tons of fishing going on, and a nice outdoor market. But don't expect there to be raving parties every night. |

Thanks folks.
I don't expect a lot of raving parties... but perhaps it's a little more lively than the hotbed of wild abandon and Bohemian nightlife - Changnyeong - where I've spent the last two years contemplating onions.
There must be some sort of an expat community in Tongyeong... just not on Dave's? |

Nice for ferry cruising. I went to BiJinDo and HanSanDo.
HanSanDo has a nice TiSunShin shrine, there's a beach on the Island that is attached, but it 's a rocky beach.
BiJinDo has a beach that require's some modernization and management.
Too much exhaust fumesfrom boat traffic, ski jet traffic and fouwheeler traffic, a narrow road runs the length of the beach and should just be shut down, though it is fun to watch, the water was fine a little on the weedy side but nice, the water gets deep pretty quickly.
The ferries go to other islands around ther but I didn't find a boat to JeJuDo |

My girlfriend and I are in Tongyeong, and so far we haven't come across many foreigners at all. We do still like it here (huge apartment on the water, low cost of living, nice people, etc.), though it'd be different coming solo.
PM me, or if you have MSN, send me a message there: [email protected]. |

I think you'll find the people there are more relaxed from what I've heard, so being the only foreigner won't be a huge challenge. |

No, the people here are great. I'm not complaining at all. I'm simply saying that being alone in Tongyeong may be difficult, at least at first, due to the huge language barrier and since there are so few foreigners.
I couldn't be happier with this place. |

I live in Tongyeong and there's a pretty nice (though small!) group of foreigners here-ESl teachers/shipbuilder types. Josh, my boyfriend and I are also here together, it's a long shot but were you both at Yokji island a few weeks ago? Feel free to PM me if you want to meet the crowd here |

I don't actually have enough posts to send PMs, but we did go to Yokji Island at one point, so it may have been us. It was a while ago though, so my memory's not too clear on whether we saw any foreigners during the trip.
If you do have the ability to PM, send me a message. |

Hello!~
I'd really like to move down to Tongyeong. I was there over the Lunar holiday, and I think I fell in love. It is so sweet, with the turtle ship and sunshine. Anyway, do you guys work at public schools? Do you know a good recruiter for that area? Please PM me, or reply.
Thank you |

^Cruisemonkey is probably the best person to contact. He may be able to put you in touch with some of his 'people' down there, but then again, I wouldn't know for sure.
He's a nice enough chap though and I'm sure he'll help you out if he can. |

Wouldn't that be kinda weird, since he started this thread asking for info on Tongyeong?
I was there in 2000. Nice place. While on a boat cruise an elderly woman asked me where my mother was. That still cracks me up. |

Tiberious, you're right... but the original post was made over seven months ago.
The city government here is hiring public school teachers through a UN-sponsored program. Check out this link - http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/korea/index.cgi?read=28849 |
