Our 5th anniversary is coming up just after Chuseok and I'd like to splurge a bit on something nice for my wife, maybe a Tahitian pearl on a 24k chain to replace the one I gave her when we were married and was burgled from our house a couple years ago.

Problem is, we live in a semi-rural area and I don't know a dealer I can trust. It looks like we won't get to Seoul before the Chuseok rush starts, so I guess I'll have to buy online if I'm going to buy at all.

Does anyone have a local site they'd recommend, where I could be sure what I'm getting is legit? Can the online department stores, for example (CJ, GSeshop, Hyundai, etc.) be trusted?

I have had good experiences with buying online is Korea. If you speak Korean or have someone to help you, you can try g-market. It is a very reliable site.

We were going to buy our wedidng rings on there but decided not to. We went to Savezone nearby and bought there.

I bought a gold bracelet from g-market and it was delivered in about 4 days. The site's good if reading Korean is not too much of a problem. Also, they are LOADS cheaper than mostly everything I've seen in the jewelry shops. Don't worry about it, the site is very safe Smile

I think finding a Tahitian pearl will be a little difficult, though...

The fiance' is looking into buying me a 6mm Platinum Milgrain wedding band from Tiffany's, but we're not buying it in Korea. If we go with them, we'll have my parents or somebody fly it in on their finger from the states. It's 40 percent cheaper at Tiffany's in the USA!

The thing with G-market is, it's basically like ebay--there are a thousand sellers, and not all of them are reputable. I once ordered 500 ml. of seeds and received an open bag half-filled. My wife called the seller and he claimed that seeds were measured in a different kind of milliliter. I sent it back for a refund.
With gold, however, not being an expert, how can I be sure I am not getting a "different kind of karat"?
