Hurrah! This is my first post.
Anywayz, you guys know anything about Elite hagwon? The U.S. branches have a pretty good rep. How do Korean natives percieve the Korean branches? I ask because I have an upcoming phone interview with the mokdong branch. In the case that I get the green light, how much bread should I expect?
Now that I have your attention, here's a request. Can you guys appraise my value in Korea? Here's a little bout myself. I graduated from Penn, an Ivy League. I have experience teaching SAT. I worked as a producer and journalist. I'm applying to numerous grad schools at the moment. I'm a Korean-American male. I speak fluent Korean. I'm 5'11", 165 lbs, straight, a good cook, a fan of the Wonder Years.
Thanx all. Please lend a helping hand. I'm a stranger to this game. |

I've never heard of Elite, so I'll assume it's a regular hakwon. If true, the job is worth W2.2 million a month (W26,400,000/year).
The bad news: Korea does not particularly care what education and experience a person has. The generic hakwon pays the same for someone fresh out of school with a degree in an unrelated field as for someone with an advanced degree and years of experience. Another piece of unpleasantness, as an ethnic Asian, a good many schools won't want you.
The good news: There are some jobs that pay more. Those jobs tend to stress TOEIC grammar lessons. IF you are bilingual, there are also jobs that pay more.
Good luck. |

Which Hagwons in Seoul are reknowned? Can you guys name a few? I owe you one if you guys help out. I'm serious. I'll take you guys out for drinks if I get a lucrative job. Except, I'm not a big fan of soju. It kills you the day after. I know it's routine in Korea to say something along the lines of "It's soju time!" You know, like the American equivalent: "It's Miller Time!" or "Zima Time!" |

The Mokdong branch has a good rep, for sure.
PM me if you have more specific questions. |
