I don't mind being a slave to a good textbook. It's when you regret the book you selected that it becomes a problem.

Unfortunately, yes. It wouldn't be so bad if I designed the tests, then I could skip the crap I think is useless and still be able to test them on a good portion of the book. However, exams are standardized, and I have no say in their design, so I can't afford to skip anything because I don't know EXACTLY what will or will not be tested.

Sophomore classes are better. I have more control there and design what I want the way I want. But freshman classes? Yeah, we're slaves to the textbook.
