Hello everyone. I just joined the forum this week after months of obsessively reading posts on nearly everything Korea related. I'm planning on making the move sometime in January and I've pretty much decided on Busan. I'm still debating on the specific part of town as I'm trying to predict an appropriate balance between the comfort of being surrounded by foreigners and the curiosity invoked by cultural immersion. Hopefully these things will all fall into place within the next few months so I can get past the phase of thinking everything to death and just enjoy the anticipation of a life changing experience. I would like to say that advice or correspondence from anyone who thinks they may know something that may benefit me either now or in the future is certainly welcome and appreciated. I've still got a few questions concerning the quality of schools in the Busan area and I would be grateful for any comments or PM's on specific employers to either seek out or avoid. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help and I hope this message finds you all doing well

Haeundae Beach would be ideal if in Busan.
Near Pusan National University is also ideal.
There is another popular university area between the beaches and Busan Station, anyone know it's name? I like that area. |

I would like to know why you decided on Busan. |

First, tiger, thanks for the reply. I'm looking into both areas you mentioned, however, I would like to get the name of the area you were drawing a blank on. Please let me know if anyone gets back to you on that.
Draz, I've put Busan at the top of the short list because it seems like the next best thing to Seoul. I have a few reservations to Seoul, the air quality and, from what I can tell, the fact that it seems very overcrowded. Busan seems to offer some of the conveniences of a large city without the burden of fighting everyday on the subway or dirtiness that seems inherent to living in Seoul. I will admit that the cultural appeal to Seoul has made the choice very difficult, however, I like knowing that I'll only be, at most, a half hour away from a walk on the beach whenever I like. As I've never been to either city these conclusions are drawn solely from what I have read on this forum and a few others. I have noticed that the overall satisfaction drawn from working for an agreeable employer can far outweigh the quality of the town, so I've decided to apply for both Seoul, Busan, and most likely a few other locations to allow myself the greatest number of choices for where I can work. So no real reason for picking Busan outside of a, hopefully, informed feeling for both locations drawn from the forums. I do appreciate your post and would welcome any advice you might have to offer on either town or the methods with which I am going about making my decision. Thanks again to everyone that has replied thus far, and I'll look forward to any further advice anyone has to offer.

I don't live in Busan but Kyungsung University rings a bell. It's supposed to be a nice area, but the PNU/Dongnae area still seems to be the popular spot.
Busan was my top choice for my first year, but I got a disproportionally LOW amount of offers from there, and chose Ilsan (decent place, a bit bland).
Like yourself, I tried to avoid Seoul at first, as it seemed everyone picked there and that bored me. However I find myself in Mokdong for year two, and it's excellent. If you get a great offer in Seoul, consider it. Many parts of the city, such as Mokdong, are totally not as crowded as you might imagine. |

Mind if I ask about your username? Is it related to the style of music? If so, you can find some good bluebeat music in Seoul, and very little in Busan. |

I'm also trying to decide what part of the country I'd like to end up in. I'd pretty much rejected Busan in favour of a suburb of Seoul, but I think a couple times a year would probably be enough beach for me. I've never been to a real beach though, so who knows. |
