When I was a little kid, I saw this listed in the TV Guide, set my alarm for 3 a.m. and watched it. Rewatching it for the first time, I was again deeply affected, though for different reasons.

Despite his enormous pot-belly, Godzilla knocks over King Kong with a flying karate kick (!), buries him with rubble, and breathes radioactive fire on him. Just when all looks lost ...

"Godzilla is roasting Kong."
"Good news. There's a thunderstorm coming. Electricity makes him stronger."

Like a professional wrestler coming back from certain defeat, Kong is revitalized by a stroke of lighting, proceeding swing Godzilla by the tail, shove a tree in his mouth, and give him a bodyslam. Godzille continues to use his breath weapon, and Kong's great equalizer is kicking boulders at his opponent like soccer balls. While demolishing some Shogun-era architecture, they cause an earthquake, which in turn causes a flood, a sinkhole, and a rockslide. Poor Japan. Hiroshima. Nagasaki. King Kong vs. Godzilla.
This is the movie that D-War should have been.

Don't take my word for it, but I heard in the Japanese version of Kong vs Godzilla, that Godzilla comes out of the water instead of Kong.

I've always been a Godzilla fan since I was a kid, but I liked Peter's King Kong more so than the US version of Godzilla, Razz.

Yeah, Kong had to grow quite a bit to make that movie.

The original Godzilla with Raymound Burr was best. The remake was awful

I've heard that several times as well. According to both the imdb page and a snopes article, the rumor is false.

As far as Godzilla movies go, things could have turned out a lot worse than King Kong vs. Godzilla. Take Godzilla vs, Megalon, for example (as seen below).

- Godzilla uses his tail for balance in a kick to end all kicks.

- Godzilla fights Megalon atop the World Trade Center towers. Awesome! (Except that the film takes place entirely within Japanese territory.)

- Audiences were also introduced to world class superhero Jet Jaguar, a robot that could change size at will, shook Godzilla's hand, and was programmed by a computer that made the Commodore 64 look cutting edge.

I'll make this nice and simple, like the old 'zilla, love the new Kong. So if I like Japan's zilla more than the US zilla, that makes me a traitor? Don't spaz man, let the pride and prejudice go.

Quote:
Since King Kong was seen as the bigger draw (at the time, he was even more popular in Japan then Godzilla), and since Godzilla was still a villain at this point in the series, it led to the decision to not only give King Kong top billing, but also to present him as the winner of the climatic fight. While the ending of the film does look somewhat ambiguous, Toho confirmed that King Kong was indeed the winner in their 1962/63 press book Toho Films Vol 8, which states, A spectacular duel is arranged on the summit of Mt. Fuji, and King Kong is victorious.

i thought the US godzilla was utter crap, Godzilla was hardly in it, most of the time it was those veloceraptor things. The Raymond Burr one is ok, but they did kind of ruin it by making all of the bits with him in it in america. I liked the sequels better, i just remember the toy planes looked really cool

I didn't like the new King Kong either, it was so over the top and ghey, the adventure bits were good, but it could have been 90 minutes shorter
