A fiend of mine had this to say about GEPIK orientation.
Boring and Dain Bae is on a power trip. She's making everyone sign in twice per day and promising room inspections. Basically, she's treating everyone like little children. That's no way to treat adults!

That is what happens when you let other sessions go unchecked and they are glorified on here for the world to see.

What will he do if teachers refuse room inspections? You guessed it, absolutely nothing. She's eventually going to piss alot of teachers off and that will backfire against her. Enough said about the fucking bitch.

It was so boring there today. I can't count how many times they told us not to get drunk or to eat lots of korean food because it's healthy.

Seriously, they are treating us like kids, threatening our pay if we don't sign in, random room inspections, warnings against alcohol, etc...

The guy who lectured about teaching methodologies really didn't provide anything useful when someone asked how to motivate the students to speak more in class. "Make the topic more interesting or change some of the words in the dialogue from their book" was his suggestion Rolling Eyes

Sadly, that's probably due to previous experience.

And people getting drunk in their rooms while they should be at lecture.

I know drinking with your boss in common in Korea, but am I the only one who's been taught that you never get drunker than your boss or senior? I didn't see any GEPIK seniors/bosses drunk.

Exactly. Either way, there's a time and a place for drinking. Training is not the best time to do it - teachers are there to learn how to do a job. There'll be plenty of time for socialising and drinking afterwards.

I don't mind the fact that they told people not to get drunk, but they had 3 or 4 people say this 10 or 15 times. I don't drink, so I have nothing to worry about, but it was the fact they kept repeating this over and over again that got really annoying.

I understand how you feel. The sad thing is that some of the other people there probably needed to hear this many times.

I take it you haven't been to a GEPIK orientation then. They barely teach you how to do your job and tend to focus more on cultural issues. If they were serious, korean co teachers would be going through an orientation as well as the native teachers.
