Hi,

It's been awhile since I've posted and I'm considering coming back to Korea (I was there previously for 3 1/2 years).

Does anyone know anything about Chonnam University?

Also they did a phone interview (I'm currently in the US) with one of the other native speaking teachers interviewing me. Has anyone ever heard of this being done by other colleges?

Just curious if anyone has a take on this.

Thanks...

Are you talking about a job in the Language Education Center, the English Language and Literature department, the English Education department, or some other area?

Anyone else have input?

Edit: Just for clarification I did do a search and found nothing in the forum discussions.

i would be concerned that it's a 10 month contract

which seems like they are just trying to not pay you for what should be paid vacation

i don't see why someone wouldn't want the "12 month contract" that is also available

Which Jeonnam University? If you're talking about the one in Yeosu, they've a pretty solid reputation around these parts.

Normalcy,

It's the one in Gwangju, but the same school as they have two campuses.

Genezorm,

The ad said both 10 month, but 12 month was also available. From what I understand it is because they are looking to start someone at the end of next month (2 months into the term). I'd take the 12 month no question.

Anyone else have input?

Yeah I see something never change around here. I would have thought our friends upstairs would have taken care of that by now.

I know of several universities who do this, but usually it's a foreign teacher also acting as Coordinator or Head Teacher. I also know that Korea University uses a hiring committee made up of higher ups and current teaching faculty.

Thanks Hanson...that actually was what happened in this interview. The guy who I talked to was a native speaker I think from England.
