Hey there,
So I understand that I go to the Dongseoul Bus Terminal (which is located on line 2 at Gangbyeon Station) to take a bus to Seokcho. I would like to know what times the buses leave for Seokcho.
Also, will there be a 10 hour wait to get back into Seoul on Sunday evening? What is the best time to head back?
What sites should I see when Im there? I know Sorak Mountain and the beach, but anything else of interest?
Wow, so looking forward to some swimming and getting out of this city!
Thanx. |

For starters, it's generally spelled Sokcho. Can't help you with transportation but I imagine there are buses semi-regularly from all the stations in Seoul.
I spent a month there for a winter camp and would have to say that Seorak Mountain and the beaches are the prime locations. The little fish market by the ocean is nice too for a meal. Also, the DMZ is cool, I've heard (if you haven't been to the one North of Seoul). |

OH, thanx. Yeah, I see it spelled both ways so thanx for the tip. Yes, sounds very prime. Thats what Im kind of concerened with. I saw a picture of Busan beach a few weekends ago and Ive never seen a beach so packed in all my life! Im presuming that Sokcho will be the same. I hope maybe to find less crowded location. Though also thinking that 'less crowded' isnt in the Korean vocabulary.
Thanks for the info and looking forward to the fresh seafood.

About every 30 minutes. They also leave as regularly from the express bus terminal.
Your choice which one you take, both are as long. Costs are around 20-25,000 won depending on the class of bus you take. It's a long ride I'd recommend you take one of the deluxe ones (Oo-Derng). They just have 3 seats across rather than the standard 4. Much more spacious. |

You might not plan on that visit to Naksan. One of my co-workers, who's from Sokcho, says there was a forest fire there last year that destroyed alot of the scenery and a couple of temples. But you've still got Soraksan and alot of beaches to visit. Hope you enjoy yourself! |

thanx for the info... I thought I was going for sure but this morning I am debating if the crowded beaches, long ride, and hot weather are worth going over there at this time of year. |

Better to spend two hours watching t.v., or heeming and humming about it on Dave's?
No place on the mainland is that far from any other place.
I went from the south coast to north of Sokcho, Hwaijinpo, two weekends ago. It's not that far, time goes by quickly.
Bring a book, or music, or just sit in the comfy express bus seat (ask for seat 3,6,9,12,15,18,or 21, it's an aisle and window seat!) and look out at the scenery.
But some people don't really like travelling, I guess. |

Just went to Sokcho and seoraksan mountain... nice trip...
bus was about 3 1/2 hours with a 15 min stop halfway for bathroom and drinks. 25,000 won luxury bus.
Stayed in motel 두오롱모텔 about 10 min walk to beach.. only 40,000 per night as opposed to the rest at 50,000 -80,000 w
ph. (033) 638 2526
mob 011 713 2545
if you find Emart, stand outside with back to entrance:
walk straight until you get to the small fair (with the pirate ship)
its overlooking that park on the left next to the lake.
great Galbi place nearby too... a little pricy but great food, service and decor. its about 3 mins by taxi from bus terminal, near the lake and pirate ship fair. Basically on the main road, on the left, 10 min walk from bus station (past emart, toward the tower)
영랑정가든
(033) 636 4149
you can hire the little electric scooters for racing around the lake edge for 1/2 hour.
if anyone wants more details let me know...

I live in Sokcho and it rained for a few minutes on Sunday. There are miles and miles of beaches so if you do a bit of walking/research you can find a relatively quiet spot. |
