Bleh, 80s nostalgia. I'm far too young to enjoy reminiscing about that era.

You say that almost like you think that's a good thing. Actually, you know, it's not.

I recall the punk movement took off in the US about 1984 (Joan Jett, mohawks etc). The US was several years behind the UK, where 'punk' was already in full swing in 1977. (Never mind the Bollocks etc). I also recall a quote by Paul Macartney that punk was good, as it injected new life into the music scene, then dominated by sterile disco music.

Punk started in the U.S. in club called C.B.G.B.s.
Some of the early acts included. The Ramones, Patti Smith, The New York Dolls. Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Johnny Thunders and the Heatbreakers
Richard Hell and the Voidoids,
The New York Dolls were managed by British art student Malcolm Maclaren. During their porformances they dressed in drag and wore hammer and sickle communist icons. This didn't go over well during the cold war. Later Malcomn started an S.M. bondage shop on Kings road called Sex. He was managing a band that he wanted to style after the New York Dolls. One day while walking down Kings road, He sees a man
with green hair and a homemade I hate Pink Floid T-shirt. He invites him to join the Band. They call themselves The Sex Pistols.

They appear on a cheesy talk show called The Today show. Its hosted by a complete drunkard Bill Grundy. The host who's completly intoxicated attemps to pick up one of the girls. Who would later be Souxsie and the Banshees. This causes outrage and lots of swearing on live T.V.
The story makes front page News . The rest is history
