Okay, so my room mate and I... possibly a few more, are looking into the possibility of going to Jeju island for Chusok vacation.

Questions are:

Is it too late to book a plane ticket (probably), and what is an alternate way to get there if there are no plane tickets available?

What would you recommend?

Yes it's too late. And I would recommend this:

You can get the ferry. Assuming no typhoons.

buses or trains to these places are readily available if you are in a decent sized town.

Its going to be stupid overcrowded. Save the money. Really its going to be like a subway at rush hour everywhere with Koreans thinking, damn I'm rich. I don't have to visit my ancestors, I can go to Jeju bitch.

oh right so you went to Jeju once and you are a kim so you think you are an expert.

beach season 'closes' 1st, nevertheless, last chuseok i was able to go to jungmun, one of the nicer beaches on the island, it was empty and hot enough for me to burn.

I went last year during Chusok (booked flight at beginning of Sept) and it wasn't crowded, at least not Korea crowded. And us foreigners were the only ones swimming.

Rent a car if you have a license, it's much better than the island buses.

Jeju Do was ripped apart by thyphoon Hari. Try to check out some pictures on the net or keep an eye on the korean news broadcasts. Some places are still without electricity and drinking water. They are cleaning up as fast as possible but if I were you I would make sure everything is ok before going down there.
