I say hello to mormons now and then, they seeming pretty decent folk compared to some other aspects of life overseas. Their white shirts and ties, bikes and backpacks, make you think they're honest and simple. Their college boy looks also make you think there're some smarts up there.

But today I read one of their tracks, although I'd all ready studied them as one of the three major cults of the US. The track's comparisons to Christianity? Horribly wrong.

I don't know how these guys can face their days here, their consciences, without giving their teachings a second thought. Needless to say, the track is seriously heretical when it comes to the bible.

Nonetheless, I can't understand the Koreans, and Asians alike, don't yet realize them as a cult. It's upsetting to see them trying to convert the Asians to what by most Christians, is considered a cult. Cults are heresies, have serious repercussions for a persons life, and once ensnared in one, it's terribly difficult to get out.

Read one of their tracks and decide for yourselves if you think there's nothing amiss, and whether or not their presence isn't but one great scam.

Try to follow the thread. It just makes me sick to see these guys duping the Koreans and Asians alike. I wonder what the average Asian thinks and if they realize at all how stupid and gullible this is making their countries look.

I love it when eighteen year old kids have nametags that say "Elder so-and-so." Elder to who - a twelve year old?

I think you mean tract.

To be honest, I don't think Mormons are any more of a cult than any other kind of Christians (and yeah, they're definitely Christians - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints? Christians.)

I read the entire book of Mormon (it's a blast) and wrote a paper about veiled references to Masonic societies in it back when I was a student.

My opinion is Mormons are good neighbors and good people, just don't try to talk about anything serious with them (they're a lot like other Christians in that way heh).

Also like other Christians, young Mormon women are goers. Salt Lake City has long been a favorite tour stop for rock, punk, and noise bands.

The reason they're called "a cult" is because they've deviated from the biblical tenets that "Christians" hold as sacrosanct, meaning they're truth.

You must study the bible to understand. WE HAVE NO OTHER BOOK, AS CHRISTIANS, TO BASE OUR FAITH UPON OTHER THAN THE BIBLE!!

Remember this, and get back to mormons being just like any other Christian.

And the bible is a book of metaphors and borrowed stories from other works of mythology.

The only difference between a cult and a religion is a larger acceptance of it.

And Mormonism is HUGE, and was, for a century, the fastest-growing religion ever.

Luckily nobody I know or respect buys into any of this flying spaghetti monster mumbo-jumbo. I'd rather worship a wilted french fry than a beardo god and his hippie son.

Mormonism is a strange religion. Essentially they believe Jesus reincarnated in America long before modern European settlement. One of the tribes of Israel was there, but they betrayed Jesus (I know...again) so God cursed them by darkening their skin. Not exactly an easy sell to non-whites, which explains why they're such a whitebread religion. I wouldn't call them a cult but I wouldn't call them Christians the same way I wouldn't call Christians Jews. Plus, and I'm sure this is a huge drawback in Korea, they don't allow alcohol.

I've known a few Mormons, and the majority of them were pretty messed up by their upbringing. I'm sure there are good Mormons but I've known too many who ended up a mess.

I went to school with many a Mormon and they were cool by me.

I don't see much of a difference between this and any other religion.

So, in other words, what you are saying is that Mormonism grew out of certain socio-political conditions that kind of allowed Westward American expansion and empire building all the while taking Native American Land and not feeling bad about it because they betrayed Jesus and white presence was even more justifiable because they needed to be re-converted.

Sounds exactly like the America I know.

I think Christianity is a cult, so with that on the table, Mormons freak me out.

Someone handed me a "Chic Tract" comic back home and I was just in shock of how racist/backwards/xenophobic it was. I went a whole day thinking it was a sick joke and upon finding out it was real, I couldn't sleep very well.
