You love it when people die, when their homes are destroyed, when flooding causes millions worth of economic and property damage.
I like amusement park rides....doesn't mean I hope we get an earthquake full force... |
Yeah...what a sick thing to say. Not all of us love rain. I sure don't. Plus, how many people have a plane to catch on Saturday to go somewhere for Chuseok? Don't make light of typhoons. |

Well, Seoul barely even felt Nari, yet, flights were delayed and cancelled.
Anyways Taiwan and Southeastern China are going to get hit hard. |

Judging by the color of the sky this Wed. morning there might be some weather coming this afternoon ...
PS: Somebody said that they would enjoy a bit of rain, yet another asked why that person is so selfish and doesn't have compassion for people affected by the storm in Jeju - Look, if we always felt pity for others we would never have any happiness in our lives.
For me, a storm washes away the blues. I could think of nothing better than to look out my windows at a thoroughly raging storm.
PS: A bit of foresight does wonders. For ex I try never to buy tickets to travel in late summer. Especially when crossing the Pacific but is applicable during Korea's storm season. Travel between Feb and May is better. |

There's a big leap from "I like the rain" to "I like it when people die". And it's no surprise given the forum we are on that the leap was made within two posts.
Good ol' Daves, keeping it real. |

wishing for some rain is is different than wishing for a typhoon. Wishing for a typhoon is akin to wishing for a volcanic eruption, tornado, or earthquake.
Yes, a little foresight is all that is needed for most people. Not everyone lives in apartments and not everyone has $$$ |

Oh no! I'm supposed to be flying to Taiwan this Saturday. Someone on here said not to buy travel tickets for late summer. Well, it's when I have time off. I am sure some others on here have tickets bought for Taiwan too. I bought mine nearly 2 months ago. |

There are different levels of hurricanes. A category 1 can be fairly harmless if you have any sense. I was in one and about the only damage was some trees knocked over and some power outages. Surfing is probably not a good idea.
A hurricane can be an interesting experience.
But be careful what you wish for.
A Category 3 or higher can be terrifying.
But the one thing you should generally not do, I have have learned, is to say you wish a hurricane will hit somewhere else. In the States, "somewhere else" can be, for example, New Orleans. And we saw what happened there. It is bad taste, even in jest, to say you wish the super typhoon would hit, say, some other Asian nation against which you have a grudge.
So in that sense, I think you have to be stoic about a hurricane.
Not that your wishes make any difference. But it is a matter of good taste.
One other thing, tracking a typhoon can be educational. For one, it can teach you about geography here. But it also shows the predictions are not as accurate as in the U.S. Part of this may be the more complex geography, and mountainous land masses. But the bottom line is with typhoons/hurricanes, you cannot know for sure what is going to happen. Apparently you cannot take the predictions and say with certainty three days out whether you will or will not get hit. The projected track has already changed quite a bit.
The worst part is the eye has stalled over Shanghai. That city is getting run through the blender. There is going to be a lot of damage. And some people will probably be killed.

Don't read/watch the news about Phuket then if you are worried about flying in strong winds. |

Don't spiel nonsense about some people who want a bit of rain or even a storm and liken them to wishing people would die and have devastation. That's silly. It's like saying public school teachers who strike demanding better pay and conditions wish that the country would go bankrupt.
PS: To the storm haters in Seoul, by January you are going to be praying for rain, any moisture, to relieve your throats and respiratory systems from the parched dried-ice-like air. There is no rain for 3-4 months. Will you handle that? I know some people, myself included, who needed treatment from dehydration one winter. One friend had to do it in hospital.
I made my bed.
I sleep in it. |
