If you have an F-2 visa, and have registered with the education office, would you have no troubles advertising yourself as a private teacher in apartment complexes, like the hagwons do? Or would you need the next level of visa to do that? (F-5??)

There is no problem at all.

But you do need to pay to have the right to hang your poster. the price depends on the Complex.

I did it with an F-2-1.

The debate I'm hearing elsewhere is that you can have a maximum of only 9 students if you are a legal private teacher.

Anyone care to elaborate?

In Seoul I used to do it w/ a E2 until I got so much response i couldn't handle it any longer. I weeded out the bad jobs (wonky parents, cheapskates) and ended up making more on a couple of hours on weekdays and a few on sat than I was making at BCM, my old hagwon.

No, not really. I targeted the most expensive apt complexes and got a few good parents and it was all word of mouth after that.

Exactly!

Only people who are well off are willing to pay for it.

Weeding out the undesirables is also good, they will not make it your worth while.

I have been getting new students only by Word of Mouth, and I only advertised for one whole week.

Koreans are always into some kind of social groups, and if you can make one mother happy, she will bring you a couple of more students.

There are some Korean social websites that ajumma meet other ajumma from. They meet on there and form little groups of like-minded friends who are concerned about their kids' education.

Having credentials from a top tier US University to graciously shove under their noses doesn't hurt either... Very Happy
