That's interesting, because I was pretty unemotive and more 'guy like' before I had the jab. Since I had it I've been getting weepy at silly things, and feeling quite emotional at times (It hasn't made me depressed fortunately, which it can do) I've even started having insane thoughts about wanting to fall in love again, and even worse I've been getting horrendously broody. Hormones! Rolling Eyes

There are advantages in not coming on. Most obvious one being that you can always put out of course! Very Happy

Old thread I know....but just wanted to point one important fact for depo...

Depo has the ability to reduce or eliminate periods because they reduce the lining of the uterus. The uterine lining is only necessary if there is an egg released. The hormones cause your body to no longer release an egg, there by minimizing and in some cases eliminating the period all together. It makes sense since if there is no egg, there is no need for the lining.

I'm on depo, I've gained some weight I suppose, but I will hardly be bullied by the Korean concept of thinness. And I LOVE not having a period...no PMS...no irrational b itchiness...no tampons....makes my life simplier. I am not interested in having children in particular, so the risk to my fertility are almost irrelevant. It is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to kids and STDS...so abstinence or common sense are the way to go....

check out the depo site if you're interested...

My fiancee took Depo shots for about 3 years, the last 18 months here in Korea. She was told that it wasn't available, so she got a supply of it on a trip home to Australia, and then just took it into the local clinic to have the shots given every three months.

After 6 visits to the doctor here for the shot, she thought it was time for a change and went on the Implamon implant, the three year implant. She had nothing but trouble with that, and after 18 months, she had it removed. We went o the Foriegn Clinic at Ulsan University Hospital to have it removed. Most of the staff spoke good english, and the consulting doctor for the removal was the Professor of Gyno. and Obstet., so she was comfortable. He told us that it is a very popular form of contraception here, and he has given it out a lot.

The cost of the removal was 110,000W, with half of that covered by our school. She will now move on to the pill, which is available over the counter without prescription here.

In regards to weight gain and periods, she lost over 10kg (22lbs) while on it, going from 56kg (125lbs) to 45kg (100lbs). This is rare though I understand. On the Depo, she only had a light period after each new shot, that is every three months, for about 2 days. On the Implanon, the theroy is that you have a period at the end of the three years.... but she had soooo many problems with it, and hormones, so she didn;t see that side of it! A three month period, with a couple of weeks off, then another three months of heavy bleeding was just tooo much for her to take ( she is very slight after all!)

I hope that this helps. I am not sure of everything about these methods- being a guy.....

My wife opted against it (we decided to throw caution to the wind and start making babies--a highly recommended option! Razz ) but there's a foreigner clinic that's not too bad at Ajou University. If you have a Korean speaker to go with you, we've found the ob/gyn clinics to be generally clean, warm, and friendly places.

Just so people know, the Seoul Foreign Clinic no longer offers the depo-provera shot. Dr. Sung does and the information in this thread (# and address) are still correct.

I'm going to Dr. Sung's in about 2 weeks, I'll let those of you who are interested about the cost and whatnot....

Ok - old thread but I need information! I've now tried Dr Sung, Yonsei, Asan, Samsung and Marie clinics and cannot find anywhere that will give the depoprovera injection. Is anyone else on this here and if so where are they going for it? I've been on depo for years and absolutely swear by it.
Help please!

You can't get it here; I never could. You get the prescription here, then go to a western country for the medicine/injections.

No side effects for me, although the first threee months was heavy. But it was nothing compared to the stress/pain I had to endure every three weeks.

Bonne chance
