Beer bandits nab massive load of Moosehead
Wed Sep 19, 4:49 PM
NEW BRUNSWICK (CBC) - Thieves made off with more than 110,000 bottles and cans of Moosehead beer from a Toronto-area transport facility in the second heist to target the brewer in three years, the company said Wednesday.

Moosehead said the theft took place early Wednesday in Mississauga, Ont. Early reports indicate the thieves stole two tractors from another trucking compound and then hitched them to trailers containing 70,000 cans and 44,000 bottles of beer, the brewer said.
The company estimated the retail value of the beer at about $200,000.
In August 2004, a truck containing 50,000 cans of Moosehead Lager bound for the Mexican market was stolen. Only 14,000 of the missing 50,000 cans were recovered, the company said.
"We can't believe that of all the beer available in Canada that Moosehead would be targeted again," company spokesman Joel Levesque said Wednesday in a release.
It may take until early next week to replenish the loss of the load in Ontario beer stores, he said. |

A Question for the Canadians on this board,
Let's say you had to choose one beer to represent your country. It can't be a microbrew. Which beer would you choose? |

"Molson CANADIAN"?
I hope the thieves drink the beer themselves. That way, they need not do jail time-the Moosehead hangover will be punishment enough.... |

I frankly like Molson and then Moose-head. As far as a microbrew, I like
Eau Benite from Quebec which tastes like a Belgian beer. Molson I would say represents Canadian beer since it has been around since 1789 and tastes more than decent enough. I do like Moosehead, so I am not complaining. At least, they carry it, but I would not mind if a poster returning from Canada could give me a Molson. As far as American beer, I like Samuel Adams. |

Police recover stolen Moosehead cans, but bottles still on the lam

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - It appears the thieves who made off with two tractor-trailers of Moosehead beer from a warehouse in Mississauga, Ont., prefer bottles, not cans.
Police recovered the two trailers on Friday after they went missing Wednesday.
While one trailer with 70,000 cans of Moosehead Lager appears to have been untouched, 44,000 bottles were cleaned out of the second trailer.
A company spokesman advises Moosehead drinkers to stock up, because it could be next week before their beer supply is replenished.
The company says the retail value of the load was $200,000.
No arrests have been made. |

I am a die hard Moosehead Pale Ale drinker. If I were Mr Oland, I'd take advantage of the publicity and create an ad campaign wchich parodies the thefts. |
