And by text message, no less...

Manager Mourinho leaves Chelsea

Mourinho's position was the subject of continual scrutiny last season
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has sensationally left Stamford Bridge, according to BBC Radio 5live football correspondent Jonathan Legard.

The news comes just 24 hours after the disappointing Champions League draw against Rosenborg.

Legard understands that Mourinho has texted senior players, including skipper John Terry, with the news of his departure from Stamford Bridge.

There has been no official word so far from the Premiership club.

More to follow.

Shocking news. There goes Chelsea's season. Don't underestimate Mourinho's managerial prowess. Say what you want about him, he's a footballing genius.

Not sure I agree about genius, although I do personally like Mourinho. Mourinho owes his career to the Russian linesman at Old Trafford who wrongly ruled out Paul Scholes's goal just before half-time, which was (would have been) 2-0 United and game over (3-2 on aggregate with an away goal).

His Porto side were a horrible shower.

And at Chelsea, with unlimited resources, he's under-achieved and taken the careers of Shevchenko and Ballack with him.

Hopefully United can capitalize and absolutely crush them this weekend. United haven't been scoring much and someone's due a pounding. It's gonna be Chelscum - bring it! Laughing

What man has an ego big enough to replace him??!!!!

I can see the Chelsea bubble bursting and leaving Stamford Bridge covered in ugly lumps of rats jumping a sinking ship.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Lampard and Terry exit at the end of this season either now.

Whoa, that's the first I heard.

A bit shocked, there's no doubting his managing ability, even if boringly defensive. I won't miss his arrogance. Big problem in football, where's the respect gone??

Bye bye chelsea! I think anyway their time was up, there's only one team now who's gonna dominate and it's................

I wouldn't be suprised to see Hiddink there in the near future. Apparently Ambramovich was instrumental in getting Hiddink the Russia job.

I think over the past year it's been a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth at Chelsea with Ambramovich, Mourinho and Arnsen all going for different players. I also wonder if Chelsea only getting 25k the other night was a factor, can't imagine United, the Scouse or Arsenal ever getting such a poor crowd for a CL game.

Think we have a winner there, Hiddink!

That's what I find strange, it's 'the premier competition' that all these teams, deep down, really want to win. Regardless of whether it's a norwegian team. The crowd especially at home games is so important. MSN was saying that, how the arsenal fans roared all night, and the few united fans who made the trip did the same. Why do the chelsea fans treat a comp, that they want to win, with this contempt? Maybe because it's not barca or milan. Shows a kind of pomposity from the fans.

Getting tickets for most games now for the 'normal' fan is nye on impossible. 25k is a poor show.

The reason they get poor gates midweek is the cost.
Regardless of the competition Chelsea attendances are noticably lower for midweek games. Last season there were several articles about how the "normal fan" is being priced out of watching their team.

Cheapest ticket in at Chelsea is the family stand 40 quid for adults and 20 quid for Children.
If you have to take 2 kids with you thats 80 quid before you consider travel costs, drinks, food etc.
Imagine doing that Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday??

Although Chelsea is a rich part of London, the majority of fans are working class and simply cant affod to attend 2 games in a week.

40 quid for an adult ticket is scandalous. Especially when you consider how much they earn from TV rights etc.

40 quid is for the cheapest!!
Most are around 50 - 60 quid.
And these are for standard Premier league games, the cost will go up for later stage CL games.
