These numbers are talking about people they have on record, who are legally there. It says 'Canadians of Korean origin'. Illegal immigrants are not Canadian.
So if both sources are correct, there are 200,000 Koreans in Canada, and 100,000 are illegal.

That's an interesting guesstimation but 100,000 illegal Koreans in Canada in 2004 simply doesn't make much sense. The one who did it might not be good with numbers. Just think about how many Koreans are officially living in Canada.

Canadians of Korean origin make up one of the largest non-European ethnic groups in Canada. In fact, the Korean community is the 7th largest non-European ethnic group in the country, after the Chinese, East Indian, Filipino, Jamaican, Vietnamese, and Lebanese populations. In 2001, just over 100,000 people of Korean origin lived in Canada. That year, they made up 0.3% of the total Canadian population.

Now if you have common sense... |

Yeah. That's the whole point. Half of the Koreans you see in Canada are illegal? IF both sources are correct. What's the chance? Surreal. Come on now. lol |

I have no idea how the government came up with its figures. But, you hardly ever hear of illegals from Korea talked about in North America and the U.S., because they are such a small number when compared to those from say Mexico. However, in Korea, people will talk a lot about foreigners, because there is a strong anti-foreigner sentiment no matter where you are from. That's the difference. |

Koreans do not have much cultural respect for the rule of law. It is hardly surprising that they would treat the laws of Canada as they do their own.
There are 50,000 illegal Koreans in Southern California alone. Hard to imagine that 100k aren't in all of Canada.

In 1990 there was up to 100k illegal Koreans in Japan.

I've read before - and don't ask me where, it was some time ago - that up to half of the Koreans in the States are illegals. That could be up to 1,000,000 if true. I seem to remember the official number was much lower than what some believed the true number to be, thus the high number above.

If the Korean attitude is anything like the Indian attitude I wouldn't be at all surprised by these figures.
In India I lost track of how many times an Indian told me they planned to move to Australia. They were just saving up to get a passport and then they were setting off with a one way ticket.
Back in Australia my father has had phone calls from Indians who just turned up illegally and wanted him to find them a job.
It's just common practice in a lot of countries in this region.
It would be nice to see somebody brave enough to crack down on this kind of behaviour, but everybody's scared they will play the racism card. |
