Very positive thoughts on Palawan. You'll enjoy it.

Beach isn't good in El Nido, but take the boat out to the islands and its gorgeous. Port Barton (I didn't make it there, wish I would have), I heard had a really good beach - goes out very shallow, ideal for swimming. Puerto Princesa is just another small Philippines city, but I liked staying at the Puerto Pension and the restaurants near the airport.

I thought Palawan was really nice. I really liked El Nido. It's pretty small so don't know how long you want to stay there, but nice. Haven't been to Boracay so can't compare. Did some scuba there. It was not great weather that day though, but reckon would be really nice on a nicer day. If you go there I'd recommed the small private airplane company cause the drive there was long and a bit uncomfortable.

Depending on how much time you have, I would suggest flying into Puerta Princessa. When I went, we went direct from the airport to the bus station and caught a bus to Sabang (so I cant comment on PP itself). 3 days in Sabang is suffecient time to hike the monkey trail, see the caves and take a boat ride through the mangroves. From there you can catch a ferry up to El Nido.

The ferry makes two stops on the way if people want to get off the boat. One stop is at Port Barton. The other stop is at a great private island.....Cacnipa. Its a very quaint, quiet island perfect for hanging out with a loved one. If you are looking for any sort of party scene, this is not the place for you. However, the food is amazing and its cheap, cheap, cheap. (The total for my friend and I was US$30 a day each for accomodation, all meals and drinks a plenty).

The only problem with getting off the ferry at Cacnipa or Port Barton is that the ferry isnt guarenteed to come back by when it next passes. The boats for hire in Port Barton dont like the ferry service taking away their business so the ferry only stops if it has people to drop off. If it doesnt pass by, there are plenty of private boats for hire........it just a little slower going than the ferry.

My suggestion is to take your time heading up to El Nido and plan maybe about 3 days in that town itself. Its a cute enough town but Saband and Cacnipa were definitely the highlights of the trip.

From El Nido, there is small plane that makes daily trips back to Manila. Make your reservations as soon as you get in town to secure a seat.

Have fun.......
