I am asking for a friend who is not a member of Dave's.
Is anyone familiar with Jung Chul academy in Jeju City?
I know Jung Chul is a chain and that each academy, even though they share the same name, could be different in how they are run. I am wondering about the one in Jeju City near City Hall. I believe the English name of the director is "Stella" (but I could be mistaken). Any information would be greatly appreciated.
If you have some information but don't feel comfortable posting it on an open board, please PM me.
Thanks.

I knew a man who taught Jung Chul in Busan. He had a frayed and tattered book. As I understand it (and perhaps they have amended their formula) Jung Chuls are practioners of the Callan Method.
This is a reasonable demonstration.

While the practioners claim great success through this method the conversational dialogue appears in observation to be a rather ROTE method of English learning from scripted texts or sections of seemingly unrelated learning materials. For example, lists of seemingly unrelated sentences are grouped together in sections and orally repeated.

I am not sure I would call it communicative but it would be a fairly auto-pilot type of job which would benefit from someone unwilling to experiment with any innate talents or skills.
For example, "I have one head" could be useful in only a very limited number of communicative situations. Each teaching method has its flaws. This one seems to be stuck somewhere in the lava-lamp era. But perhaps a good first bet at ESL in Korea. |
