OK apologists- now tell me how I made any of that happen and how it was my fault.

You were sitting in his seat. Duh.

Though on a serious note, I too will ask "why are you calling for apologists to defend the actions of an intoxicated individual?"

Uh uh. Houst... Lush72 we have a problem.

Because I was irritated and was anticipating replies to the effect of how it was my fault for not understanding such and such. Embarassed

My bad.

An intoxicated idiot giving you grief on public transport can and does happen in any country in the world. The only difference in this case is that alcohol unleashed the racist anti American sentiment barely hidden, in the psyche of most koreans.
Of course its wrong that any one individual should be targetted for the percieved wrongs of the country he happens to come from, but hey, people have been calling me a racist white settler from S.Africa in every country I've been to. And I usually have even more black friends than they do.

Someone here has got a signature along the lines of:

"Never say drunk what you would say sober."

Unfortunately this is not the case when it comes to drunk Korean men blaming you for being a foreigner.

Do you have any idea what he was saying or was it just alcoholic rant and rave? If it was a waffling alcoholic, then they are EVERYWHERE! Just don't get involvedin converstaions with them when they are evidently drunk and irrate, as this irritates them even more.

I wonder what these guys want? Do they want us to apologize for being in "their" country? Best is to just ignore drunks as best you can.

It's all about law enforcement.
If a Korean knows that they can tell you to go F yourself and there's nothing you can legally do, then from time to time you are going to run into some spoiled jackass who abuses the fact that not one single cop in Korea is going to arrest a Korean for breaking a harrassment law.

If a Korean in that subway situation were to come over to me and quietly explain to me that what I was doing was inapprpriate in their culture, then I would definitely stop doing what I was doing.
But for someone to lash out loudly, that's harrassment.
Then again, your Korean girlfriend knew it was inappropriate, and I feel she was wrong to allow you to touch her in a way that is inappropriate in her public culture.
The man who yelled at you, he should have quietly spoken to your girlfriend about it.
And you should also know that if you mess around with cultural taboos in public you should expect trouble and not be surprised. This is not unique to Korea.

Take a look at the comments about the Korean women that the majority of the male posters make on this site.
Do you find it remotely respectful?
I would be willing to wager that the majority of the male foreigners that have "relations" with Korean women have no intention of marrying them. They are just looking for some "action" until their contracts are over.
Only a person like yourself would think that that was a positive thing! The sad truth is that too many of the women that get abandoned are then ruined. No Korean man would ever touch them, if they knew the truth.
You speak of respect, so is it not possible to be just friends with these women that you have no intention of marrying?
Since when is taking advantage of others and using women as semen receptacles respectful?

I don't think that negative comments about Korean women on this board should be taken too seriously. I would concentrate on the postiive comments made by many of the people who are happily married to Koreans.
I would be willing to wager that the majority of the people in the WORLD have many "relations" without the intent to marry, and that it is not something unique to the korean women-western male thing.
In the past, when i didn't have much money, the majority of the Korean women I met had more money than me, and once they realized that they were quick to run for the hills.

A Korean man would not want to have a relationship with a Korean woman if she had slept with a non-Korean?
NOW on that you need to elaborate.
I want to hear something sensible.

So this morning I'm sitting on the 85 bus to city hall reading my newspaper and minding my own buisness. The bus stops and on gets a drunk man who looked to be about 40-45. He sees me and goes right up to me SCREAMING curses at me. At first I just ignored him as this has happened before once or twice. He sees that this is getting absolutely NO reaction out of me so he decides to try to grab me. So hes yelling migook shipseki, shi bal blah blah blah and attempting to grab / swat me! I yell at him not to touch me in Korean which sort of throws him off and begin to look at him in a way that he knew I was no longer amused. In this ENTIRE time the bus driver is yelling at this guy to stop and EVERYONE else on the bus is looking down like nothing is going on. !

Again, it's because law enforcement sucks.
Call the cops and get him arrested? No way!
He knows that he can do this and get away with it.
He's drunk and he needs to be given some special food to calm him down. He needs rest. He had a bad night. He lost some money in his business. It's the anniversary of his father's death tomorrow. Crying or Very sad Poor Guy! Look at him Crying or Very sad Poor little ajoshee trying to tell the foreigner his problem.
Oh my God I feel so bad, and YOU, YOU dirty bastrd Westerner, you have no idea!
This is Korean MAN and he has a reason for this behaviour that you can not understand.
He is...................................................AJOSHEE!

Same old stuff. They're like BIG BABIES, they're not me.
Their grandmas gave went down on them for God's sake.

Have to agree with H& T here. I'm generally speaking an ajoshee hater. They do act like big babies some of the time. How a race of ugly, flabby miserable men can spawn a nation holding such beauties for women is beyond me.

Haha, yes I agree, what the hell is wrong with you rapier?
What are you talking about?
I don't care what anyone looks like in this discussion.

As far as your "nation of beauties". I think they're just as ugly as the wide-headed pronounced jaws turtles that spawn them, but that has nothing to do with this.
