The problems with the prostitution is that it is by and large not a voluntary choice for the women... more typically young girls... involved.
It's categorized as slavery for a reason. |
That's a common misperception propagated by people who are offended by and would like to abolish the sex industry. |

The main reason for the predilection of sex for sale is as always, economics. The average female salary worker can expect to earn substantially less then their male equivalent. Handbags and nose jobs don't just pay for themselves.
http://theseoultimes.com/ST/?url=/ST/db/read.php?idx=260 scroll about 1/2 way down the page.
From personal experience, I have had several of my adult students who were "involved" in the industry for the simply stated reason, "I have to spend more than 1 million won per month for my childrens' hagwans, so I have to do something."
I am NOT condoning or giving tacit approval to it, nor am I about to pass judgement on anyone because of it (buyer or seller).
I am just stating facts that I am aware of and presenting articles I have read and leave it to the reader to make their own moral judgements.

Businessmen go to a room salon and blow $2000 without having sex, just drinking whiskey, groping, and singing some songs. Does that count towards the "sex" industry?
|
If you think that $2000 at a room salon doesn't get you a BJ and/or sex in the room you are crazy. Then they pay a little extra for the old love motel special. I don't know of one person who goes to the room salon and spends more than $500 who doesn't get a sex related service in return. You are kidding yourself if you think that $2000 only buys some whiskey, groping and singing. A lot more is going on there. I would provide some video links, but I am sure that would get this discussion shut down. If you are curious search the names of room salons in your area and most have videos depicting what the average night in the room salon is like. Very entertaining stuff. If they don't count room salons toward the number they should and it would be a lot higher than 4.1% then. |
how can we find these sites? i'd be interested in checking out these videos for educational/investigative purposes.... |

Surprisingly enough it doesn't always result in an extra round despite the costs involved. I used to go to "business meetings" with senior managers of a semi state Korean company in Room Salons in Busan. The hostess girls got groped a bit while singing but thats was often as far as it went.
Once the bill got dropped in front of me because I was the only one not comotose and my jaw dropped when I saw it was over 1.5 million for 6 people. So I quietly put it on front of the oldest sleeping Korean guy and went back to blissful ignorance.
I knew an american wrinkly guy who used the red light area near Haeundae. It was about 100,000 a go. So based on those figures a trip to a room salon costs the same as 15 other visits and may not involve actual prostitution. Therefore I agree that the % of GDP is not a true reflection if room salons are included. |

It's funny because when I goto Korea, they always say how America is so immoral and American girls give it up so easily.
They truly believe that a majority of American and Japanese girls have one night stands freely with anyone.
That kind of attitude doesn't really bother me, but the whole idea that Korean girls are so pure and innocent is really repulsive.
 |
To be fair, thats the impression I got too from watching American TV shows and movies
It's always a case of an attractive man/woman are sleeping together/going to sleep together or despise each other and may or may not sleep together
Movies like 40days/40nights and Tv shows like Sex in the city doesnt help either |
In America, if you are still a virgin at the age of 18, its a travesty. I bet you more Korean girls are virgins when they are 18 versus Americans. |

Koreans are great at disguising the truth.
Many Korean men are dirty in the sense they partake in sexual activities
They tell themselves I AM A MAN! And its ok for me to do this!
Morality doesnt enter the mind for the ones who chose to do it.
But I think its mostly the older generation guys who did it and still do it.
It has been in this culture for hundreds if not 5000 years hahahaha
Now of course not all Korean men do this.
But so many do, and I think those stats 4 billion dollars is not just sex!
I mean room salons are a place for socializing! A lot of men dont have sex with the girls! Same goes for cafes! These places are supplying men with young or older pretty hostesses! So a man can feel entertained, have his drinks poured for him and be pampered! So many married men use this service when the company picks up the tabs
No sex is swapped! Most of the time!
For single men who can afford to use the room salon service for sex Im sure do...
As the room salon girls in the right places are VERY beautiful, i am talking movie star, model good looking. And usual make between 20-40million a month rich clients can afford these places, and usually cheat on their wives, or are young rich playboys who are not married
Barber polls are used for men needing a quick release! To Korean men its not considered cheating its just part of the KOREAN MAN CULTURE! But I think room salons or houses with hostesses are more the traditional culture. Like geisha houses...
Porno movies, internet websites, Red light districts, motels, room salons all add up to the 20 billion dollars! Actually I doubt its that high! Hollywood is only worth about that much
And the US porn industry is worth 12 billion
But that book is kind of misleading because it tells people that again FOREIGNERS brought the evil here.
Long before the Japanese and Russians were here there was sex for sale!
Korean history shows that there was sex for sale, prostitution forms of room salons!
The writer of this book is trying to blame Japan for this dirty society,
But the fact is Koreans dont want to blame themselves for this society so they are looking at Japan to blame! Seems to me the writer is trying to blame Japan! Whatever!!
Sex for sale! Was here long before Japan came!
If Koreans really care so much about their image they would not let Koreans use those places, and only use it for foreigners that way it could be seen as a dirty thing foreigners use... fact is foreigners dont use those services here as 90% of them dont accept foreigners. And they still make billions of dollars of some industry which most would like to say doesnt exist. Korean sex industry is bigger than THAILAND!
But Koreans want to look down at Thailand and say its a dirty sex industry country!
Again Koreans are doing what they do best! Passing judgment on others, before they actually look at see the problems right here at home! Trying to deny, trying to blame others for the influence due to circumstance, and looking for ways to make themselves seem the victim. Fact is if Korea never wanted the sex here! They would have gotten rid of! But they never do! And they never did! Just shows Korean men are dirty! But dont want to been seen that way! |

I swear to god, all this talk about Korean men being mongers and all, I would say that 90% of the white guys I know/have known in Korea go/went to hookers, too.
And I see nothing wrong with it at all, except that it is too pricey in Korea as opposed to S-E Asia, and the service in general isn't as good. |

| In last years Report, we used U.S. Government data that disaggregated transnational trafficking in persons by age and gender for the first time. These data showed that, of the estimated 600,000 to 800,000 men, women, and children trafficked across international borders each year, approximately 80 percent are women and girls and up to 50 percent are minors. The data also illustrate that the majority of transnational victims are trafficked into commercial sexual exploitation. |
This is just one report. You can find many others that support it. If the sex trade was government run and open like the bordello in Arizona, then you guys would have an argument because you'd have some evidence of volunteers to point to.
But it's not. It's run by slavers. You are supporting the slave trade when you visit Hooker Hill. |
