You know it's fall when students have orange iodine colored fingernails...ah the rites of Autumn in Korea.

It's not iodine.
It's a flower called bong sun gwa(봉선과). It's a natural die. You crush the flower and leaves in a mortar and it'll become a slightly liquidy paste. Wrap it around your fingers for the night and you'll have pretty orange fingers in the morning. |

Like I said on the other thread, I can't believe some of you don't ask your students why they've got the orange color on their fingers.
You're really great representatives of the teaching profession. Really good communication |

I would ask but my orange-fingered students are in kindergarten and they're still stuck on "It's (a/an) elephant." It would be wonderful to carry a conversation with the students or the teachers here, but everyone at my rural school is low-level. But thanks for the bit of snark - it's so motivating. |

"Why are your fingers orange?"
(blank stares from my students)
(Points at fingers) "Orange."
(more blank stares)
"Oranji!"
"Oh Teacher! You can korean speaking!"
(Gives up.) |
