Update,

Been five weeks now and no problems, EXCEPT:

1. At night I see a halo around street lamps and headlights. Anyone know when this actually stops?

2. I had really good near vision before the operation and now it's just not very good. When I say near vision, I mean 1-4 inches from my eyeball...

Any thoughts?

I don't have the halos, but it seems to be common.

I just tried the 1-4in thing, and I can't focus on anything that close, but I can't recall ever trying the same thing before surgery....

Nateium, what type of surgery did you have? I'm in the process of building up the balls to start making appointments for consultations. I intend to get the surgery done in the last week of Oct when my folks come to visit.

A bit off topic so my apologies...when you guys went for consultation, did the doctors mention anything about implantable contact lens?? I was all revved up to get the lasik done but then had a friend who's having problems now, she had hers done like 6 months ago...so I freaked out and got cold feet. But I recently saw an advert for the implantable contact lens and when I did a bit of research, I found that it's widely practiced in Korea (but only a few specialists) and supposedly there's lower risk cos they only make 3mm incision....anyone know anything more about this or someone who's got this done??

Implant contacts? Sounds dangerous.

Better start making those appointments soon if you know exactly when you want to get it done. Maybe you don't have to book two months in advance at whatever place you decide to get it done. But maybe you do. Do it now and make sure.

Lasik is more dangerous because it is IRREVERSIBLE, whereas the implantable contacts are removable.

Inserting a foreign object into your eye might be reversible, but it still seems worse to me.

It also costs twice as much.

They never mentioned it to me, and my guy spoke stellar English.

Wavefront seems to be the best (and most expensive) option, and I was a little bit nervous, but I cooperated fully and it was painless. The only really scary part was that you actually lose your vision completely for a few moments when they make the cut before the laser starts up. (If I remember correctly) but I'm so happy with the results, that I can't complain...best money I ever spent.

Still, I've heard and I'll look up the article about how the LASIK people are trying to keep quiet the people whose operations didn't go so well. Food for thought, and I reiterate that many of the doctors who do the procedure ARE STILL WEARING GLASSES!

LASIK surgery in Windsor, Canada depends on the choice of 2 procedures, and it will also depend on the current state of your eyesight, shape of eyeball etc.

For me, it would have entailed a lot of reshaping of my eyes so I was quoted a total price of $2000 for a semi-recent procedure (which I am sure was promoted as fabulous not long ago) and $3200 for the latest methods.

I'd like to see that link, definitely. Shocked

SuperFly, what about your near vision? You don't have to wear reading glasses, do you?

It is very easy to find those people. I spent several hours yesterday googling and reading horror stories. There are many forums devoted to eye surgery and some of them are nothing but "MY LASER EYE SURGEON STILL WEARS GLASSES AND NOW I'M BLIND".

It didn't turn me off from it completely, but I'm seriously considering PRK instead of LASIK now. Before I'd rejected PRK outright but a second look makes that first week of agony look possibly worth it in the long run. Definitely going to discuss that option with my doctor. Has anyone here got PRK instead of LASIK?

I got PRK with wavefront-sure the first week sucks, but I had my stomach cut open by a doctor-no big deal. For the first month, reading at about 7pm was a bit dogy but that was about it. All good.

How about getting 1 eye done and then doing the other one, a year later. Is that common?
