No way. It may be easy to pick up a distorted headline and run with it. But is it not necessary to participate in its self-righteous tone and contribute one's own melodrama to the mix...

| I think this is stupid. I am glad Mandela is alive and I pray for his health...I do think a president should be able to express himself without saying Mandela, a South African and world icon, is dead. I hope the next president will be very eloquent. |

| "I heard somebody say, Where's Mandela?' Well, Mandela's dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas," Bush, who has a reputation for verbal faux pas, said in a press conference in Washington on Thursday. |
Bush made a mistake. But it ws a different mistake than lib idiots are trying to pin on him. he knows Mandela is not dead. He was using Mandela as a symbol of political resistance. Bush's mistake was not in thinking Nelson Mandela is dead. It was in using someone as vile as Nelson Mandela as a symbol to be upheld, in the first place. |

Still belaboring the point?
It was NOT a malapropism at all as spliff has pointed out.
He was employing metonymy, to be precise (although I doubt he knows the term--but then I'll wager neither do most posters to this forum and apparently South African authorities).
Mandela is not God-like. |
