I've been to Ilsan a few times and the place is amazing. Everything is there. Everything is new and everything is clean.

Just wanted some thoughts from people that are teaching in Ilsan about what its like.

I hear its becoming pretty upscale and I was afraid the kids would have the same bad attitudes that the kids in Gangnam do. You know, the whole "Money can buy anything" attitude.

Granted I've only taught in Ilsan for three months, the kids I have are great. I teach 7-12 year olds and they don't possess that attitude. Are you looking to teach here?

Yeah. The town is awesome. The buses go just about everywhere and there are plenty of them. Also, it has a subway line.

I just wanted to get a feel of what the schools were like.

Just be careful. The Ilsan Hogwan Association is very strong and they help MANY hogwans cheat teachers.

The area Labor office (up in Ewwww-jam-boo) is clogged with cases against Ilsan-area hogwans and the local courts are VERY familiar with the crooked hogwan industry. If you can find a teaching job elsewhere, take it, and VISIT Ilsan on weekends. That's what ianinilsan does.

The La Festa & lakeside areas of Ilsan are very nice.

Last year, I was deciding between an academy in Ilsan and one in Cheongju. The Ilsan one seemed like bad news. (In the contract, it said that it you're 30 minutes late, you don't get paid for the entire day. I'm never late, but still.) So I chose the Cheongju one.

Cheongju's nice, I guess. But my area of town is a complete dump. Next contract will probably be in Ilsan.

Have fun in Ilsan- teach somewhere else. I'm warning you, the Ilsan Hogwan Association keeps a lid on salaries and many teachers get screwed/blued/tattooed here.
